Re: Bits and Pieces

Loros charity book shop ,Queens road .that's Clarendon park road/Victoria park way , they have four boxes of U.S comics £1 ea...

Bits and Pieces

Each fortnight I've been collecting 80's U.S.comics from the charity shop I visit .However in the past few months I have picked up some U.K comics as shown in the first pic. The Playbox comics I got from a car boot sale with 5 books and a couple of old magazines , one of the books being The Golden B...

Re: Just a comment

Hopefully with the campaign to reduce plastic and packaging it will stop the trend for wrapping and sealing hardback comic books in cellophane. For instance The Works have stocked a number of superhero books given this treatment . Although everyone is familiar with the characters it would be nice to ...

Re: Just a comment

Hopefully next year the charity shop I visit will still have the 4 boxes of 80's comics stocked up. To me this was a time when art and storytelling was of an high standard. When flicking through the pages of superhero comics I like to see ordinary city scenes with people going about their daily live...

Re: Just a comment

That's a ridiculous spoiler by the way. There's no way anyone could stop themselves in time from reading the words after it. I'd suggest editing it out. It was a jokey spoiler, with the comic no longer on sale it is unlikely to be read and I don't think anyone would care strongly enough anyway. I a...

Re: Just a comment

With the success of the Wonder Woman movie film makers are said to be moving toward a less darker approach to their superhero movies and I think looking at the comics stacked along the walls of ForbIdden Planet to me there seems to be less of the grisly and bloodthirsty comics. As a collector I get ...

Just a comment

I think at my age I'm more an observer of the comic scene rather than a participant. Although this is a U.K.comic forum I don't know whether members are regularly buying new U.S comics on a weekly basis. Most people love bargains and I've noticed over the last couple of years fewer annuals are makin...

Re: What comics did you buy today?

A few days ago armed with £20 christmas gift shopping vouchers plus birthday money I went into Waterstones,Smiths, the Works and was disappointed with the comic material that was on offer and started to think maybe I should buy other things instead. Today the Works sale was well underway and I decide...

Re: What comics DIDN'T you buy today?

I remember when radio was the chief form of entertainment one of the programmes I listened to was Educating Archie (No! it wasn't when dinosaurs roamed the earth).Anyway I was at Melton undercover car boot yesterday and the only thing I found of interest was an Archie Andrews annual which beforehand...

Re: What comics did you buy today?

A couple of weeks ago (I visit this particular charity shop every two weeks ) I noticed a number of Comic Reader magazines in with the boxes of comics.I dismissed these at the time as not being the sort of thing I was interested in but having thought about it since, decided that on my next visit may...

Re: What comics did you buy today?

Also found a Wizard Holiday book for Boys, the 1939 issue. Great news, but how are you going to get round with only one arm and one leg? Sorry, not sure what you mean. Threw me for a bit but phoenix means that something that costs an arm and a leg is expensive, in other words it must have cost a lo...

Re: What comics did you buy today?

The main market is still there I hope? I haven't been to Leicester for a couple of years. Yes ! That is a permanent Leicester fixture . There is the charity shop in the Leicester area that has lots of annuals and U.S comics that I visit regularly but with the number of comic buyers with deep pocket...

Re: What comics did you buy today?

The last time I saw the guy who ran the shop was in the indoor market he helped me get hold of some 2000AD issues I was missing. Sadly the indoor market has now gone from Leicester and I have not seen the guy since. He may be the chap that stands wednesday morning on the market selling books and co...

Re: What comics did you buy today?

I have bought some comics from him but generally I regard his as shop prices in that they reflect the items value and there are no real bargains to be had. Do you only ever buy items that you class as 'bargains', abacus, as opposed to fewer items at what you refer to as 'shop prices'? Quite a numbe...
