Re: New characters...The Dark Newt and Flatman and Ribbon
I like the new Dandy's approach of spoofing films and tv rather than celebraties..it is a good move.. I think one of the major benefits of the Dandy's more experimental attitude is that it allows it to be short-termist - commission six episodes of a quick cash-in or a concept with very limited gag ...

If you click on 'View results', it insinuates that two people have actually managed to vote. I'd very much like to know how.

Re: This week's issue Take 2
One thing which did jar this week, though, was the Germs title banner - I personally think the 'Totally Gross' part ruins the excellent original banner, and it's resemblance to the sort of labels you'd see in the Dandy Xtreme era makes it even worse. Oh, that's been going on since October, and ther...

"Heritage" and "vintage" are two more serial offenders. The Beano prefers use of the not-quite-so-ghastly "retro" for these purposes.dishes wrote:or "Iconic".swirlythingy wrote:(Still got some way to go before it beats "empowerment", though. And as for "dynamic"...)

I note in this week's Bananaman, he buys the Beano from a local newsagent, but the sign above the door reads "M. Heggie"...

The words "Collector's Limited Edition" are creeping slowly up my extensive list of the most abused words and phrases in the English language.

When I looked, 2 was still out, alongside 3. Get yourself to WHSmith pronto, George. Do they even have WHSmith in New Zealand? Maybe it will be the new Classics from the comic...and we've got more issues this year to come....I'm hoping they do a Christmas special.. An Ultimate Beano Summer Special ...

Re: British comics are dead. Discuss.
As myself and others have mentioned before, it's the public's increasing indifference to comics that's the big obstacle. It worsens as time goes on as the percentage of kids who read comics seems to decrease with each generation. [...] Sadly the solution of get the cheque book out and publish more ...

Re: British comics are dead. Discuss.
Maybe I should have written my fourth paragraph in big bold letters: Let's start by clearing one thing up right away. In this post, I am talking about the comic industry - that is, the selling of comics to people who buy them, or otherwise enabling the creators of said comics to earn a living by wri...

Re: Help for the new boy please?
I now do not feel comfortable posting and certainly not in a chatty or informal manner because at the moment I feel too embarrassed and am far too concerned with upsetting anymore members (or anyone), accidentally or otherwise, or reinforcing this negative image I seem to have given as, frankly, a ...

British comics are dead. Discuss.
I visited my local Waterstones today (well, yesterday), and the very first thing which greeted me was an entire window stacked full of nothing but Fifty Shades of Grey. Just inside, there were yet more piles of the wretched thing, accompanied by a large banner reading, "Buy the book twenty million p...

In fact, Roger will be celebrating his sixtieth birthday in April next year, just in time to celebrate two years since the strip was put into reprints.Digifiend wrote:Roger the Dodger predates that. Ken was the first artist and it started in 1953.

Re: Promoting new publications
By default, everything that Commando CO (CL or SM) does, it can be considered as an advert for Commando. I disagree. As the editor of Commando, Calum Laird is paid to edit Commando. DC Thomson have other employees (I presume!) who are paid to promote their comics (none of whom, as far as I know, po...

Re: Promoting new publications
So making people pay to give us the "nod" about forthcoming products is an interesting idea, but would exclude Commando CO and Classics From The Comics from participating in a free and open debate {as they currently do} as we would consider them interested parties who are pushing a DCT product. Tha...
