Re: What comics did you buy today?

Nice looking Dandy. That Brickie's outfit looks suspiciously similar to what Desperate Dan wears. Although I don't think they'd finalised what colours it was back in 1946.

Re: Which British comic series have been adapted for TV or film and which British TV series have been adapted into comic

I believe Giles, the famed daily express cartoonist, whose books still get published anually decades after his death, worked on the Come on Steve cartoons.

That gets me thinking which famous British cartoonists have also done work for animated films and television series.

Re: What comics did you buy today?

Those are some nice looking covers. Really love that christmas crossover one. It reminds me of a couple of other christmas crossovers that appeared on the covers in the 1940s that were reprinted in the recent Beano Dandy Classic Comic covers book from Phil-comics. I just got my copy out to check if ...

Re: Which British comic series have been adapted for TV or film and which British TV series have been adapted into comic

The first British comics that I can think of that have been adapted for tv are: Captain Pugwash, Dennis the Menace and Bananaman. I think there's a few more if you include Newspaper strips. For the other way round from TV to comics there is probably a few more examples. Wasnt that kind of the whole ...

Re: What comics did you buy today?

1st issue of Buster very impressive. :) Can I be cheeky (weekly) and ask how much that cost? Not today but it in the last week I got a book, which is a sort of History of Film Fun, written in the mid 1980s. I'm not really a fan of film fun, but I find the history of comics and old comic collecting c...

Re: DC Thomson cut 300 jobs and close down some titles

I'm surprised about Animals & You. That magazine must've been running for over 20 years. I remember adverts for it in the Beano back in the early 2000s. I can't find much chatter about the magazine online. But I guess it was mostly read by very young children.

Re: New Fleetway Comic T-Shirts

These look like fun. Thanks for posting. I might get myself an oink t-shirt.
I dont think any of the models on that page were alive when any of these comics were running (except maybe the last couple years of Buster) :D

Re: Beano annual reprints

Sorry for resurrecting an old post but it appears they started also doing reprints of Dandy annuals too. But you could only get reprints of 1960 to 1990. None of the really rare old ones. And they cost £29.99 so it would be cheaper to just get the originals off eBay. It doesnt look like DC Thomson s...

Re: What comics did you buy today?

The 2023 classic Beano and Dandy annual was a real treat. probably my favourite of the 3 annuals. This year's theme was "spooky" strips and the comic was full of them. The inside covers being big full page (Double Page?) Laughing Planet strips by Tom Paterson, which are a real work of art. There we...

Re: What Christmas Comics Have You Bought Recently?

Nice to see the Phoenix up to issue 574. Thats a very respectable number. Its already got more issues than Whoopee and the shortest running of the big 5 (the Skipper). It won't be long before it overtakes Sparky.

Re: What comics did you buy today?

I got the Beano, Dandy and the classic Beano and Dandy 2023 annuals. The Beano annual is good. The highlights are probably Dangerous Dan strip. I think its really well drawn and takes advantage of all the extra things you can do with digital artwork rather than the classic way of drawing. I didnt li...

Re: What Christmas Comics Have You Bought Recently?

After reading both the Viz and Beano christmas specials. I decided to put a mini-review here. The Viz christmas special is ok here. I liked the Tom Paterson art work although I much prefer his work in the Beano and Dandy and the recent Monster Fun. I think colour adds a lot to it. Plus I just didnt...

Re: Zoo comic

I've never even heard of Zoo Comic.
It doesnt sound like it was from a big publisher either.
I'm surprised by that, I'd have thought they'd needed more financial backing to start publishing those famous newspaper strips.
