Re: Ivy has a new artist

The modern version of the Numskulls, with Ed instead of the man, only started in 1990 in Beezer and Topper - I think that would've been during Alan's tenure as editor there. Fred's bed debuted in the same issue. And when Ivy was created, Alan was only chief-sub editor of Beano, a role he later retu...

Re: The Beano Review website

I think they're very unfair about Dave Eastbury and the scripts he was working from. To be honest, I thought that one might get a mixed reaction when I wrote it. It was a bit of an experiment on my part, just playing with the continental style a bit. Some people have liked it, some haven't - but if...

Re: "Mrs Johnson's Jumbo" - help?

Hang on, I remember that. We had a few pages of that drawn and in the office before the relaunch was decided upon. I always liked Henry drawing elephants - he did some nice stuff with Phoot & Mouse. Mind you, comic elephants are just funny. There should be more elephants in comics.

Re: Waiting for a response from the Beano

Jonny, I work on the Beano. Please PM me some details of your name, when you sent your work, what you sent and so on, and I'll see what I can find out.

Dennis the Menace on The One Show this Friday

On this Friday's episode of The One Show, twinkletoed TV presenter John Sergeant visits the Beano Office to kickstart both the celebrations of Dennis's 60th anniversary and of coverage of Comic Relief. We've had a great day with the folks from the Beeb today. Dennis has been filmed menacing various ...

Re: This week's issue

Sadly, I doubt we'll be seeing such drastically modified logos very often... they only got away with it this time because the issue was bagged. We're giving a lot of thought to the look of the covers to make them striking and memorable - but you're right, we won't be changing the logo often. If we ...

Re: Fun size - Black Bob story.

Yep, it was definitely Keith Robson. Had the Dandy Fun-Sizes stayed in the Dandy office rather than heading off to another office's care, Keith would have drawn a manga-style Whizzers From Ozz for me. And I think he'd have made a brilliant job of it.

Re: New format

Meebo & Zuky haven't been dropped. There's a gentle little tale of their Christmas in this week's Chrisrmas Beano - and I think it's in the online teaser so you can read it online as well.

Re: Beano Website

I liked the writer's blog too, but it seems that's one thing we've lost. They never did one two weeks ago, and the site was down when last week's would've normally gone up. I must admit though that those blogs weren't entirely truthful. Saying how they got ideas for Calamity James strips for instan...

Re: 'You'll never work for the BEANO again!''

Someone did a really good version of Ken Reids style on Jonah a few years ago in the Beano, then for some reson he/she disappeared - but it was the best version of Reids style I have seen. Keith Robson, and it was in the Dandy. One of the few characters to jump ship (and then sink them all!) Keith ...

Re: This week's issue

I think 'Classic Comics' is too busy eating cakes marking 25yrs at the firm. Congrats, Iain! Aw, thankee... was it a quarter of a century ago that a slim, fresh-faced youth wandered nervously through the front door, wondering that working on a comic would be like? Well, actually, I was never that s...

Re: This week's issue

Notice the anonymous female presenter, who we only see the legs of. They didn't know Alex's identity at the time I guess. And I think (judging by other forums) everyone was expecting a new set and graphics, which didn't materialize. They were advertising The One Show as new look. New presenters doe...

Re: Comic Idol returns

That's not Laura's responsibility, she isn't the writer. Classic Comics, over to you. I don't think that Meebo & Zuky is a story which would benefit from an ongoing story. There are a number of reasons for this. We do extensive research and we've found that serials are less popular than stand-alone...
