Re: Space 1999:Part 1:The Non Look -In Strips

Thanks for publicising this, Jim. I remember watching all the Anderson series up to UFO on their first outings, and was totally bonkers about Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet in particular, but somehow I missed this one. Maybe I thought I was too old for it. If so, I've regressed in old age.

Re: Where Are The Best Places to Buy Comics These Days?

I can only speak about buying in my particular area of interest, which is girls’ comics. I don’t know of any bricks and mortar shops in London which stock significant amounts of these titles, so all purchases are online, usually 30th C or eBay. You will probably get a lot of different responses abou...

Re: Mike Hubbard - But where were they published?

Afraid I can't help with this one, as I've not seen them before. I agree they can't be The Bumper Book for Girls 1975, as one of the eBay listings shows the contents page, and none of these story titles is included. However, it may possibly be another book in this series. The Book Palace has some ar...

Re: Belle of the Ballet-Lyndy of Latymer Grange

Yes, that's his art in a nutshell! I though I would add one of my own to the gallery, a charming little story which you may not have seen before as it's from an annual - Girl 1963. But I think the art is superb. Every ink stroke lives, and some of the facial expressions are priceless: https://i.imgu...

Re: Belle of the Ballet-Lyndy of Latymer Grange

Thank you Goof for this clarification. I appreciate Harry Lindfield more and more, too bad he is so little known in my country France... On this subject, a question: in Great Britain is Harry Lindfield recognized at his true value, or is -he is a little-known artist (like, alas, Noël Gloesner in Fr...

Re: Belle of the Ballet-Lyndy of Latymer Grange

Thanks very much, Vautour, for posting these. A note of caution regarding the artist for the last 5 episodes of "Trois Filles". It seems that Gerald Haylock took over as artist for the Belle and Mamie series from August 1963 to August 1964. Lastdodo credits Haylock as artist for the two episodes 24 ...

Denis Gifford thought it was George Wakefield. Lambiek also credits him as the artist.

Re: Belle of the Ballet-Lyndy of Latymer Grange

Thanks, Vautour. This definitely looks like the same artist.

Regarding the original source of "Trois Filles sur un Bateau" - and "Belle et la Cendrillon Volante" also - I think I've answered my own question. Here is the cover from Girl comic for 13 July 1963.

Re: Belle of the Ballet-Lyndy of Latymer Grange

In case you don't already have an artist name, i think the story artist here was Harry Lindfield, although the covers were done by somebody else. This isn't quite his usual style, and I wonder now if he may also have done Belle et les Fourrures Ensorcelées from Line. Also, do you happen to know wher...

Re: Can you identify this story (possibly from School Friend Annual)

Thanks for letting us know, Robbie. A new name to me, but he seems to have been a noted and successful portrait and landscape painter. An interesting example of Fleetway's policy around this time of using established "fine" artists in its girls' titles, such as Septimus Scott, John Millar Watt and F...

Re: Can you identify this story (possibly from School Friend Annual)

This is from the story "The Sorcerer's Stone", from School Friend 1966 Annual. The artist may be Noel Gloesner. It looks quite a lot like his work, and he did do some other stories for Fleetway girls' titles around this time, but I can't be absolutely certain about this.

Re: Diane Gabbott: List of her artwork

I've updated the list to include a story from Mates that features in David Roach's book on the British romance comics "A Very British Affair". There are no further details about her work for the romance/teen titles, so I have no idea how far work for this genre might add to the list. The timing of t...

Re: Original Dare Dare Artwork?

It's from the story "All Treens Must Die!", Issue Vol 15 No 36 (5 September 1964) of Eagle, artist Keith Watson, writer David Motton.
