Re: Bob McGrath
Bob also drew Roger the Dodger in the early 1960s, before Ken Reid's second spell as artist. I think the first Roger strip after he returned to the comic in 1961 was drawn by Bob (the strip features in The History of the Beano).

Re: Cuddles and Dimples return
I wonder if any of those strips will appear in the Dandy at some point? I think using them would be a win-win situation, as the strips willl have one of the main advantages of reprints (you don't have to come with new ideas or get an artist to draw them) without the caveat of there being the possibi...

Re: Cuddles and Dimples return
I doubt any strip in either the Dandy or Beano will be reprinted continuously for four years - any reprints that aren't popular usually get dropped, whereas the strips that remain popular usually come out of reprints after two years or so - Billy Whizz being a good example, he was reprinted for over...

Re: Second series of Dennis the Mildly Irritating announced
I must admit that I never really watched the 2009 Dennis series. I think was I put off by Dennis' new voice, which sounded way off kilter to me (in my opinion his voice sounded too Northern). However, I did enjoy the earlier 1990s TV series which seemed much more in keeping with the comic, and had s...

Re: Football season 2011/12
Yeah, I watched the Arsenal-Manchester United game. I don't blame Wenger for any of the decisions, though - it's hardly his fault if players can't be bothered. Andrei Arshavin was inspid once again, and directly at fault for Welbeck's winning goal. What has happened to the player who starred at Euro...

Re: Celebrity Dandy - do you miss it?
Good point about the Bash Street Dogs. Also, by the time Pup Parade reappeared in the Beano in June, I suspect everything would have already been drawn for the 2012 annual by then, as it was released a few weeks later. However, I think Billy the Cat was supposed to appear in the 2012 Beano Annual dr...

Re: Celebrity Dandy - do you miss it?
I think that recent Beano Annuals have found a better balance than the recent Dandy annuals - they consist mainly of current strips drawn by the current artist, or, if the strip is in reprints, they usually pick an artist who drew the strip previously (such as Laura Howell on Les Pretend) or one who...

Re: Celebrity Dandy - do you miss it?
In my opinion, Harry Hill has been a loss. However, I don't think the other celebrities are missed much, and I definitely agree that the Dandy needs to be built around its own characters. That should hopefully allow the Dandy to establish its own identity instead of just attempting to follow trends....

Re: The Bash Street Kids - The Beano #3619 *REPRINT?*
It probably is a record for a 'regular' issue - the only issues with more reprinted pages are probably ones with reprinted long stories, such as the 2007 Christmas issues, which included a 19 page Robert Nixon reprint from 2000, as well as single pages of Billy Whizz and Gnasher and Gnipper (though ...

Re: The Bash Street Kids - The Beano #3619 *REPRINT?*
The first time I remember DS signing his work was around March 2004. I also thought this week's BSK story looked like a reprint, mainly due to the title panel - the same title panel is always used these days, but until a few years ago DS did a unique one each week - though I'm fairly sure I haven't ...

Re: Fan art
I agree, all the characters are on model and that's a brilliant piece of artwork. Well done! (Hope you had a happy birthday too by the way). If I had to pick a favourite from your drawing I'd probably go for Mr. Meecher as he's so in character, but I also thought your Postman Prat was a great likene...

Re: Weather-related strips!
I don't think this is quite what you're looking for, but in the early Calamity James strips in 1980s Beanos, James usually had a cloud above his head (to symbolise his bad luck). It was used as a plot point in some stories, such as one I've seen where it wrecks his attempts to play various games, as...

Re: *ADVERTS SPOILER ALERT* #3617 - 7th Jan 2012
That's not accurate at all. When Mike took over, we had a meeting to discuss things and as an office we all agreed that when we took all the factors into account - particularly audience reaction - Ivy wasn't an option that we should pursue at that time. It's not about us putting our stamp on things...

Brilliant cartoon, felneymike! It captures the spirit of the comic strip very nicely indeed.

Re: *ADVERTS SPOILER ALERT* #3617 - 7th Jan 2012
I agree, I'd love to see Calamity James return, particularly as we've seen so little of Tom Paterson's work in the Beano recently. However, so far there's been little evidence to suggest which side of the divide Mike Stirling is on regarding James - if he's not a fan of the strip I can't see him ret...
