Petition for a British Comics Museum

Post by Al »

Darren Davies over at http://www.Britishcomics.com has got a petition going to the Prime Minister to make available funding for a national museum dedicated to British comics and Story papers.

http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/BritishComics/

Apart for the Colindate library, which is mainly dedicated to newspapers, it would be nice to have one dedicated to British comics and story papers.

Making the exhibits interesting to the visitor could prove challenging, but sections dedicated to artists, writers and publishers might do the trick. And possibly a section giving lessons on how to draw and write for comics.

It could also be a good idea to bring all the comics from Colindale over to the new museum for us researchers.

What do other people think?

Name's on the petition. I just hope if it ever comes to pass it's situated a little farther north than Watford.

I'm signing it too.

Fantastic idea!

Let's hope Tony Blair used to read comics.

I've signed the petition but hope the Colindale collection stays where it is - if it moves any further away it will be difficult to visit. I'd like to think the British Library would stay in the loop, so perhaps the volumes can be made available for reference loan to another location, if this is decided on.

I have always felt that this country needs a museum along the lines of the Musee Bandes Dessinee in Angouleme (I think the spelling's correct). It has a rotating stock of original artrwork kept under controlled lighting and temperature and has themed exhibits. This would need to be in addition to Colindale so that one does not eclipse the other.

Nice one Lew.

Even then, I'll bet he just used to look at the pictures.
