Need help identifying a comic
Re: Need help identifying a comic
Two more comics.
First of:
"A famous conqueror: Napoleon" (Translation of the Swedish title.)
Copyright: Fleetway 1963.
Where could that have been published and where there a series.
Second:
"The Halfbreed" (Translation of the Swedish title.)
Copyright: Grap. Lit (Could that be an Australian company?)

The Napoleon strip may have come from Knockout - late 50s early 60s.

Re: Need help identifying a comic
The Napoleon one looks a little like the style of Eric Parker, but I can't be sure... got any more of it? His style was pretty unmistakable! He most famously illustrated the Sexton Blake stories in Union Jack and Sexton Blake Library in the 20's and 30's
Re: Need help identifying a comic
The Napoleon piece is definitely by Eric Parker. I'd have to check to be sure but I'm pretty certain it comes from the cover of an early issue of Valiant.

Re: Need help identifying a comic
Ok, so I got a new bunch of comics (although not quite a dozen, I had to pace myself )
As always:
What's the features name?
Who's behind the comic?
Where was it published?
--------
"Animals World records" (Translation of the Swedish title)
Copy: IPC, published 1975 in Sweden.

--------
"the Black Pirate" (Translation of the Swedish title)
Probably a take on Emilio Salgaris book: "The Black Corsair".
Copy: IPC, published 1975 in Sweden.

--------
Feature: "Teddy Track"
Copy: none, published 1970 in Sweden.
This looks to me like the work of Ian Kennedy, could that be accurate?
--------
And a last one before I'll turn in...
"Greatest Climbing Feats" (Translation of the Swedish title)
Copy: none, published 1976 in Sweden.

Well, that's all for now! But I'll be back

Re: Need help identifying a comic
The last one is another Valiant cover - this time from 14th November 1964. It's part of a series on the theme of world records entitled 'The Greatest...' The artist seems to be Mike Western.

Re: Need help identifying a comic
Phil, I would go along with you on that one. It's very similar to his work on Wild Wonders, so unless both of us are really out, I would say that was a good call. I would have been sat there for ages trying to figure it out. Not only that, but a very impressive collection in that you could find the originals so quickly.philcom55 wrote:These are the original versions. In order:...The Greatest... I started to say something sensible but my parents took over my brain!

philcom55, you're the man!

Then I'm guessing I won't win any prices when I think that this one belongs to the same feature?philcom55 wrote:These are the original versions. In order:

Re: Need help identifying a comic
S'right! Cover of Valiant for 9th Jan. 1965. The artist looks like Mike Western again.
(Valiant was unusual amongst Fleetway's titles in that its covers carried this sort of fact-based picture feature for most of its lifetime. Along with 'Famous Fighters' and 'The Greatest...' other cover series included 'It Happened This Week', 'It Could Happen', 'They All Laughed...But...' and 'Is It True?'. A variety of artists were used on these for the first few years but Mike Western drew nearly all the later ones ('It Could Happen', in particular, allowing him to stretch his imagination to the limit with Science-Fictional scenes of the Future based on contemporary science).
