£1.99!?! That's way over the odds, even the current issues don't cost that (well, Dandy does, but the page count is higher nowadays, which partially justifies it).

Cambridge Oxfam is one of my favourites but gosh £1.99 is a lot! Can't assume they were all sold though, maybe they transferred them to another store.

Think that's standard comic-pricing for Oxfam - they had a load of Whoopee! comics in the one in Liverpool a couple of years ago, all priced at £1.99.

There's 4 Oxfam's in Cambridge that I know of, this was the dedicated bookshop. The big one near Forbidden Planet (can never remember road names, the one with two on it is "the road that goes to where I meet Asha" XD) is not a bookshop, though has loads of books, and some real bargains can be found. I got about 100 90's Bunty's in there for a fiver once, doing a blog post about them slowly! The one on Mill Road, for anybody visiting any time soon, currently has masses of late 90's 2000AD's, perhaps about 2-300. Dunno about prices though, but I don't think they're as much as £1.99.

Went to Deptford flea market and picked up Victor Books for 1966, 1970 and 1972 for £1 each. Also got the book of Dad's Army for 50p and a Del Shannon 1960s EP with picture sleeve for 50p.

Earlier this this week I got Topper no. 1475 that I'd won on ebay. Nothing special in itself, but I now have all 524 A4 toppers, no. 1440 to no 1963 (1980 - 1990). Total cost of about £195.

The four Commando issues, and also The Dark Judges, one of the small-format Judge Dredd reprint books. These books smack of the ""Manga" sells loads, so if we copy the format we'll sell loads too!" attitude, and some parts look like they're going to need a magnifying glass to read!
But then again, it is a 2000AD epic in yer pocket.

Comics through the post this week

Post by SID »

Postie has been busy with me getting the following over the week:

Strip Magazine 5/6 I got through the post on Monday. Long wait but great read.
I loved all of them but my current favourites are the Devil's Heritage and Black Ops Extreme.

CLiNT 2.5 was waiting for me when I got home on Thursday. Another great read. I loved Secret Service and Supercrooks.

2000AD 1809 and The Dandy 3607 (4 issues to go) were on the door mat when I got up on Saturday. Dredd/ABC Warriors and Secret Agent Sir/Nuke Noodle were good among others.
Reading comics since 1970. My Current Regulars are: 2000 AD (1977-), Judge Dredd Megazine (1990-), Spaceship Away (2003-), Commando (2013-), Monster Fun (2022-), Deadpool and Wolverine (2023-), Quantum (2023-).

Featuring Nuke vs Baby-Face Finlayson. Apparently impressed the Beano editor enough that he commissioned a series of Baby-Face! I'm looking forward to seeing that one.

I must admit I thought it was a good Baby-Face too.

Went to a monthly antiques market & netted:

Diana annual 1969 (near mint condition too)
Princess annual 1969
June Annual 1962 (very battered condition, with a few pages missing - fortunately some of these got reprinted in Best of June & SF)
3 copies of Look-in from 1978

Also, I've been keeping very busy clearing space & receiving in the last weeks a lot of stuff shipped up from my mother's in the deep south. These have included my collection of Look-Ins from 1981 - 84 (most of the editions published then should be there), plus Viz comics from 1987 to 1993 & some other less good alternative comics such as Ziggy.
May sell these to clear space to any dealer who'll do a good deal (though the Ziggys would be worth little).
