Nice selection there! Did Filth! have the "free gift" included?
No, there is mention of a free sticker on front but inside all I can see where the sticker should be is a kind of screwed up cellotape ,unless this is just a joke .l wouldn't know what I was looking for unless I had bought the comic new.

This is an independant comic and in small print at the back it states a print run of 1000.It is a Viz style comic price 25p probably dating from the eighties as there is no date on it.Also at the back it asked for all talented artists who would like to see there work in print to get sending. This is issue 3 and I would not have thought many more were made.On the front it mentions a free sticker and on page 3 where the sticker should be there is strip of screwed up cellotape as stated earlier.Underneath where the sticker should be it mentions this transparent sticker that we are giving away free so that may well be the joke.

Even though I don't like football in the real world, I did enjoy Scorcher comic, but I only read it for the first few months. So when I recently saw over a year's worth on eBay last week at a reasonable price I bought them. I now have every issue (bar one) of Scorcher before Score merged into it. Ken Reid goodness in every issue. (Not a patch on his Odhams work due to IPC being more conservative but good stuff all the same.) The adventure strips aren't bad either, including the early days of that famous football cheat, Billy Dane.

Yep, that's the joke

Other issues included a free match, a free Sugar Puff and a free birthday candle. Four issues were published, and a fifth one exists "in theory". If you look for Rob Filth on Facebook, he's slowly re-doing every issue in colour and posting them on his Facebook page.

Lew, to be precise, there were 24 issues in which Ken Reid was substituted by other artists, this includes the first 5 episodes of Harry Hammertoe the Soccer Spook by Reg Parlett. I don't know who the other artist was but IMHO his work wasn't very good. Also, there were 4 issues which didn't have those humour strips at all.

Admittedly I haven't checked every single issue yet but, as I said, I'm only talking about the issues before Scorcher absorbed Score. Harry Hammertoe didn't arrive until the later merged issues.

Yes, I should have paid attention... The details I provided in my reply concern the entire run of Scorcher.

It's ok. I probably wasn't being clear enough. Yes, it's all the solo issues of Scorcher I bought. Only missing issue 4 unfortunately. Over 90 issues. I haven't looked through them all yet so I'm not sure if Ken Reid skips any issues or not.

What I'd forgotten is that after the Odhams comics closed it seems that Ken was only used on the adventure comics for a few years. 'Banger and Masher' in Valiant, 'Faceache' in Jet, and 'Sub' and subsequent funnies in Scorcher. I know IPC management felt his style was more OTT than they'd prefer (which is why they banned The Nervs from being reprinted in their comics) so perhaps they felt he was unsuitable for the early Whizzer and Chips and Cor!! Pity. Those comics would have benefited from it.

There's a distinct change in Ken's strip work between Odhams and IPC, which was a shame. He was still brilliant of course, and his pin ups for Whoopee etc were as dark and twisted as his Odhams stuff, but the strips seem more reigned in compared to his sixties stuff. A shame. He was the best humour artist they had and they should have let him go wild in my opinion.

Anyway, apologies for going off topic. :offtopic2:

Had a second look in Sainsbury's this morning (a couple of weeks later), and found the Best of Beezer book. And tucked behind three of the Beezer ones were three of the Whizzer & Chips ones! So I have those two now.

No sign of the Best of Topper book, but they had Battle, Roy of the Rovers and 70's Girl.

That's the Sainsbury's in Crosby if anyone local's wanting to get them.

Not a comic, but I've picked up a promo badge used for the opening of Forbidden Planet 2 on eBay - I'm a sucker for anything by Bolland and the badge features one of characters from the shop advertising poster he did. Never seen one before so for me it was a bargain at a mere couple of quid.
Loved the Forbidden Planet adverts he did for both shops and the New York one - Never tire looking at them. Lord knows where the original artwork for these hang - sadly not on my walls.

just purchased two whole years of Battle/Action comic - 1978/79 for a pretty penny but, considering what I shelled out for with previous issues in piecemeal, I feel good :D

Bought the Overstreet Price Guide 2014 from ebay - still waiting for it to arrive. I have some 50s pre code Horror comics on ebay and I think I have them far too cheap. I have some original EC comics to put on and want to check the values. My existing Overstreet is from 1976 so could be slightly out of date. Besides its just nice going through that book as it gives lots of artist credits where they aren't given in the comics.

Bought the This Was The Wizard book from 30th Century Comics. I can't seem to recall the authors at this moment in time...

Just picked up four Australian Mandrake comics from the 1950s, including no.1 (though I don't think it's the first no.1 :? ). Not brilliant condition but fascinating stuff. I wonder if Paw Broon knows any more about these?
