Having said that, issue 852 of The Wizard (April 1 1939) changed hands on eBay tonight for £19.60. Mind you, the advert on the back page for an issue of The Beano might just have had some influence on that outcome.Phoenix wrote:It is, however, becoming more and more obvious to me that the market for text story papers is falling away.
What comics did you buy today?

Re: What comics did you buy today?
Can't find any uk comics in the charity shops lately and so I just intended to keep spending to a minimum and pick up two U.S. comics I had had in mind from last weeks charity shop visit. However today they had added some new stock giving me more choice of buys.I got--------
BLUE RIBBON COMICS 1983,THE FLY STORIES-----------------------£1
CHARLTON COMICS 1984, GHOST MANOR----------------------------£1
DC SCIENCE FICTION TIME WARP 1980 doomsday tales 68pages-----£1
CHARLTON COMICS, FUNNY ANIMALS FIRST ISSUE 1984-------------£1
CHARLTON COMICS ZOO FUNNIES 1984------------------------------£1
Although the animal comics are for young readers it's the cover art that sold them to me and they are a change from the more serious comics.
It's strange U.K. comics are not finding their way into the charity shops and with the carboot season being over that gives less options for coming across them.

Re: What comics did you buy today?
A quiet week so far but quite a few lots interest me this evening on Ebay. I've missed out on quite a bit recently as prices went well beyond my expectations.
So far I've purchased:
Captain Britain #8
164 Battle Picture Weeklies - Geoff's posts meant I had to!
Joe 90 #1 1969 - City
Buzz #1 1973 - DCT
Pocket War Library #1 1971 - Thorpe and Porter (yet another war related picture library type comic)
Red Dagger #1 Twisty 1979 - DCT

My ebay win of a number of Jinty comics from 1980 has just arrived - very happy!
jintycomic.wordpress.com/ Excellent and weird stories from the past - with amazing art to boot.

I'm really quite surprised by this information, comixminx, because I have been assuming that you already had the full run. How many more issues do you need?comixminx wrote:My ebay win of a number of Jinty comics from 1980 has just arrived - very happy!

I've still got a few that I need, annoyingly. About 15 or 20 in total I think?Phoenix wrote:I'm really quite surprised by this information, comixminx, because I have been assuming that you already had the full run. I've got a few of the Fleetway Colourbacks. An interesting series with lovely covers, but unfortunately the interiors are text only.

Re: What comics did you buy today?
just got these two today.
Whoopee! comic - (12th October 1974)
1st issue with Shiver & Shake joining Whoopee. includes a nice advert for Whizzer & Chips comic with the black bat free gift.
The other is a Knockout comic (25th September 1971) - never had one so since it had the Joker & Fuzz Pot thought it was worth getting.
