That's all part of eBay though. He who hesitates loses the comic. ;-)

Everyone has the same chance to win, so it's fair.

I know what you mean. I always try to make my move at about the 90 second mark, so that way if I get snipered at 15 seconds, then I have one last chance to win the comic(s).

Anyhoo, back to the comics, I won nine 1985 Warlords last night and lo and behold, somebody else has now just put lots on for the months of 1985. Isn't that just typical, so I could end up buying doubles to get those extra comics that I don't have!!

Sod's law. At least you can sell the duplicates on - hopefully for profit.

The trouble is that if your opponent's using some kind of sniping software it doesn't matter how fast you are - the only way to win is to exceed his upper limit!

Sniping software? Not aware of that but I've placed bids within the last few seconds and won without any special software. Truth is everyone has the same chance to win. And at the end of the day it's only comics, not life's essentials. I've lost as many times as I've won. doesn't really matter. Chances are those items will crop up again sometime, and often in better condition.

Although I understand the use of the word "won" in Ebay terminology (as an auction) I always have to smile when I hear people saying they "won" something on Ebay, when in fact they really bought an item - maybe if you get an item for 50p when its worth £10 etc but £3 for a 1968 Buster etc is (I think) about the going price (gawd I sound a right grump) but seriously is (for comics in general) Ebay that good value for money? I ve bought a few items on it and once postage is added its not always been a great buy - then again there is a lot of choice on ebay.

I think ebay does feel like winning...a kind of gambling...and very addictive...I often get carried away...When you have a few on the boil...its like a winning horse coming in..

I do try and keep to some kind of budget and its important to read the comics you buy...also to have breathers from ebay..

I love ebay... :)

Yes, even if you purchase something on BUY NOW you still get an email saying you "won" the item.

Must "win" some bread and milk from the corner shop tomorrow. ;-)

Here's a sniping service chosen at random just to show what you might be bidding against:
http://www.auctionstealer.com/home.cfm
- Note the use of the word 'stealer'! As long as we use language like 'winning' and 'losing' with respect to internet bidding I can't help but feel that this sort of practice amounts to a form of cheating. Personally I've never used any of them and think that eBay UK should ban their use in the way that eBay Germany already does!

Just been given a nod by phoenix that I should re-direct my online shopping to 30th Century as it will help complete my Warlord weeklies and even fill in some gaps in the Victor run. I am amazed at how many of my saved searches are now being lasered in to search for specific issues rather than everything to do with a certain comic. But I have the feeling that the Specials hunt is going to be the worst. Now beach first, comics after! :D After all, it's only 30 Centigrade here!

When I first started buying on ebay, I used to bid as soon as I saw an item I wanted however many days hours seconds were left, But now I find that I bid in the last 20 seconds at my highest price I'm prepared to pay or think it's worth, so whatever price the items at say 10p or 99p I will put in a bid for say £3.23 so If I loose it I think oh well that's all I wanted to pay for it.

No car? Could've made multiple trips from the car park to that stall. Unless the sale has an entry fee (hate that :x) in which case each trip puts you out of pocket.

Finding anything from the 60s is good work in my book, I very rarely find anything from before the mid-1970s (I'm referring to your 1969 Beezer).

Man these great car boot sales seem to be appearing in every part of the UK except Central Scotland - it's all US comics (moslty 70s - 80s withthe occassional 60s finds for 50p etc) in this area (a lot more choice outside that area though in the East of Scotland etc) but some amazing and cheap finds being bought up on this site you lucky things you!! The 1969 Beezer Annual brought back some good memories as I remember that one from my childhood -

I believe that the Ingliston market is no sae bad for good deals, but how many comics turn up there is up for debate.

Steelclaw, you got a great bargain there with the Look and Learns
