Re: What comics did you buy today?
I bought the new Roy of the rovers graphic novel today and must say i enjoyed it more than i thought i would but i cant help feeling they missed a trick as they had mighty mouse and the hard man but could easily have added Andy Steel playmaker and Billy dane to the team as they are the right age and perhaps nipper lawrence and a young hot shot hamish etc

I was a bit more retro and I finished my collection of Ranger with issue 3 and got my first issue of the all but forgotten Hurricanes comic from the 1990s.
I started to say something sensible but my parents took over my brain!

Never heard of Hurricanes. Was it football related?

Re: What comics did you buy today?
Bit of a recent assorted bonanza:
Recently arrived from 30th Century Comics, their handful of remaining Pixie Comics and some Princess Tina - prompted a lot by curiosity of Pixie and the When Did The Happy Days End? thread. And I like Jane Bond and Chairman Cherry too - so Happy Days indeed!
On Saturday I want to Manchester Comic Fair and bought a lot of TV Comics from 1965-66 (hadn't realized just how good some of the artwork was during that period) and a handful of 1971. Mostly for their Catweazle and The Avengers strips and also for Orlando (I believe was a good series and it's scandalous just about all the episodes and wiped of this gem. Disgrace). Don't rate their attempts with the short cartoons like Popeye, Bugs Bunny and Tom and Jerry though.
Today at a car boot sale in Bolton - a 1982 Tammy (Bella on the cover) and a 1965 Dandy annual both for 50p in decent conditions. The latter has plenty of Big Head and Thick Head featured in it - another gem from Ken Reid. A steal!
At same place also got a best of Private Eye 1961-71, with some great satire strips in it (£2) and for a quid got a summer special - although no comic strips - it was Shoot! Good football nostalgia and memorabilia though, bought alongside with a Park Drive book of football 1968-69.
Things got spoiled a bit by the sad news that this Bolton car boot - in a covered market place - is closing down due to "lack of profit for Council" - ie we need to waste some more money elsewhere on building some monstrosity. Only leaves the Leaver Street car boot in Bolton which is nowhere near as good. The one going was also a good place for a social too so will be sorely missed. Will be nothing left in Bolton soon.
Was frustrated on Saturday too - saw lots of DVDs/Retro TV I'd have liked but will have to put on hold as the comics have shot my budget - still will provide lots of pleasure though!

Shouldn't 'Leaver' be spelt 'Lever', as in 'The Great Lever End' at Bolton Wanderers' old home at Burnden Park, on Manchester Road, going away from Trinity Street Railway Station?DavidKW wrote:Only leaves the Leaver Street car boot in Bolton

I'm too busy, Adam, but since you know who he is/was, I did think you might have answered my question. I would certainly have made time in my busy schedule to read your answer.

Very happy to find Boys' Realm #1 by Amalgamated from 1902 today. It has tape along the spine but I've never seen the #1 before so very chuffed!
