If you do decide to have that holiday in the Hayle/Lelant area, do feel free to PM me. It would be enjoyable to meet up. The evening in the Copperhouse, the drinks will be on me, the evening in the Old Quay House, on you. It wouldn't be expensive as I don't drink much when I drive to the pub.starscape wrote:A job came up that made me closely consider moving back to Cornwall. I declined but only just. The last issue of Sniper Elite: Resistance came through the door yesterday.
With a cover by Carlos Ezquerra and starring Rat Pack, it's pure classic Battle Picture Weekly. A blast from the past.

Re: What comics did you buy today?
I've been trying hard to control my comic buying as it's been an expensive year and was doing well with only 2 purchases of Story Land #1 from Marvel in 1984 and Masked Raider #1 by WDL in 1955...….until yesterday.
I managed 2 great purchases of issues 1-49 of Hurricane and issues #55-157 of Smash! These two purchases of 152 comics all in really good condition, have filled the majority of gaps in my collections meaning that I only need about 25 copies to complete both sets. I also have a phenominal amount of doubles within both sets as well! Not bad for less than £2 an issue including postage.

Re: What comics did you buy today?
Picked up the following in Deptford flea market yesterday for £15:
Tiger (then Eagle & Tiger): 17/10/77 to 31/12/77, 6/5/78, 8/7/78, 29/7/78 to 30/9/78, 14/10/78, 21/10/78, 4/11/78 to 25/11/78, 23/12/78, 16/3/85, 23/3/85, 20/4/85 to 11/5/85, 25/5/85 to 15/6/85, 13/7/85, 20/7/85, 21/9/85 to 5/10/85, 19/10/85 to 30/11/85, 14/12/85 to 11/1/86, 15/2/86, 22/2/86, 15/3/86, 29/3/86, 5/4/86, 19/4/86 to 17/5/86, 31/5/86 to 14/6/86, 5/7/86 to 19/7/86.
Issue dated 22/2/86 has the free gift cardboard boomerang inside. And issue dated 31/5/86 has the Mexico 86 stickers still on the front.
Also got Mighty TV Comic nos. 1338, 1339, 1341, 1343, 1344, 1349, 1350, 1352, 1353, 1356, 1364, 1369, 1400, 1416 and 1418.
I also picked up three centre page pin-ups from Mighty TV Comic but as they have no dates or page numbers on them I have no idea if they have come from some of the issues listed above. The comics don't have dates on each page and none of them have a cover blurb saying "pin-up inside. Pin-ups are Louise Jameson, Rod Hull and Emu and Basil Brush. They are four page stand alone sections with an article about the pin up subject on the first page and an advert for Polystyle Holiday Specials on the fourth page. Can anyone help? Thanks.

I got the Beano diaries vols 1 & 2 by Ray Moore these are really good and well researched and wish they could be updated into a nice hardback book as they only go up to 1989 ,was there a 3rd volume and was there a similar book set for the Dandy?

Yes I think it was called the Dandy Monster Index, also in two parts. I only have the first which I think was from 1937-1960.

Re: What comics did you buy today?
thanks steve i will have to look out for those but hopefully the guys at comic scene can do a hard back reprint book of each and check if Ray or anyone continued to do notes from the 90's onwards so they can be up to datestevezodiac wrote:Yes I think it was called the Dandy Monster Index, also in two parts. Went to Deptford flea market yesterday and picked up seven vintage newspapers for 50p each including the first issue of Junior Express which has a few comic strips including a full page Jeff Hawke.
Also picked up two books - Association Football by Wilf Mannion a first edition from 1949 and Devon Boys A Tale of the North Shore from 1905. £1 each.

This is one of the strips from the Junior Express. I recognise the art style but cannot put a name to it. Can anyone help?
Here is the Jeff Hawke strip. Apologies for poor resolution.

I'm pretty sure the Conway Cousins is drawn by Eric Parker Steve.
