Need some help please

Post by The Toff »

Hey all.. I'm kinda new to this forum stuff.

Anyway my mum gave me loads of comics dated from 1953 up to 1990 and there all in mint condition. They are a birthday presant for me to sell to get some money.

Anyone know where to look to sell comics.
I live in Bournemouth so anywhere near there would be a bonus

Thanks all :)

Hi,

Theres a great second hand bookshop in Winton, down a side road opposite Lidl.

He would I am sure be interested in some of the earlier stuff but comics from the 80s and 90s may prove more difficult to move.

Surely it would be more sensible and far more profitable for The Toff to try to sell the ones from the fifties and sixties on eBay. If they really are in mint condition they should go like hot cakes. Personally I would put a selection of say half a dozen up at £2.99 each plus p&p and just see what happens. I imagine that that is what most secondhand book dealers would do with them anyway, although naturally I am not trying to second-guess the one in Winton.

If you google Comic Book Postal Auctions you'll find a site that specialises in selling comics on your behalf although they will charge a fee. You can view previous catalogues to see what comics sold for at recent auctions. Perhaps you could give us an indication of the titles and dates of the comics you have, perhaps some of us may wish to buy them. Dealers and shops will give you a quite small price as they will want to make a profit that covers any that they buy from you and don't sell.

There's a collectables dealer on the main road into Boscombe, a few miles before you actually reach Boscombe. I'm afraid I don't know the name of the road or the shop though. He stocks a lot of comics and annuals, British AND American. He might be worth checking out. Although I would second the comments already left and suggest that the internet will give you a much wider audience and probably people willing to pay more than a dealer. If you go for the eBay option, make sure you have a well-written, accurate item description and several pictures. I know it sounds obvious but so many sellers miss out on getting what their comics are worth simply because they've only put one picture up and their description is along the lines of "lots of comics lol chck my feedback hppy bidding".

The seller's fee is 20%, unlike the buyer's, which is only 10%.

It may well have been, I really can't remember the name. They also sold a few records, some action figures, etc etc, you know the type of shop. It's not on Boscombe high street, like I said, it's actually a mile or two out of Boscombe along the main road.

Hi Toff,

Are there any early Playhour weeklies (e.g. #138-140 from 1957) in your collection?

John
