I looked through a 1980 Look-In at Manchester Comic Fair yesterday, but found a page torn-out so no sale there, I prefer complete.

I did look through another pile of Look-In and pulled a 1980 gap filler in collection out. Got distracted by something else and then when I decided to got for the rest someone had already swooped. Always a price to pay for hesitation/budget concerns. Just go for what you think you might like is moral of tale.

I went to Liverpool last Saturday - a change of scenery and a chance to see some newer antiques places I'd read about.

I walked (after dodging some heavy drizzle showers) all the way to Liverpool Antiques Centre on great Howard Street, but not many comics on sale and had many annuals but I had got the ones I would've bought. Got a coupe of good local history in photos books though.

Walked all the way along docks roads to old Cains Brewery ( I miss them, great beer. I visited the brewery itself in 1998, great time), looked around stalls at Red Brick market stalls. Some good retro stalls but nothing to interest me, but did have cracking chat with a stallholder, including on retro TV and the appalling sorry state our TV industry is in today and depressing dross on the "Main channels".

Went to 69A, found a few comics and mags, but after checking me lists, had got those items.

Burned off a few calories with all that walking, undid a bit by a few concillation pints in the cities many interesting pubs.

Swings and roundabouts, that's what collecting's about.

David you novice you!!!!!
What you should have done is hold the issue close to you, defend it with your life and then put it back later if you decided not to buy it!!!!
May I ask what issue it was,if you recall the number?
And how much they were charging?

I like Charlie Chaplin comic covers and saw a Boys Cinema described as having said cover for sale on Abebooks but the seller refused to send me a picture! (I like to see what I'm buying before I part with my cash), anyone got a picture of Boys Cinema vol 1 #13 6th March 1920 please?

I presume you have the Comic Art of Charlie Chaplin hardback book? Maybe there's an image in there, although Boys Cinema didn't contain comic strips so maybe not.

Sorry for my mega late response Jim - I've been so busy and distracted these last few weeks.

Those Look ins were from mostly 1976-77; one had the Tomorrow People on the cover (the trio of John, Elizabeth and Mike line up), the very same artwork used on the front cover for the second volume of the Look In reprints. Another one mentioned an article on footballer Keith Weller of Leicester City.

They were all at £7 each, great conditions.

I let myself get distracted my a I'll just look at that store opposite moment. That's my rubbish excuse anyway. Now anything I may be interested in I grab and hold on to then assess to buy. Had experiences of comic fairs!

No probs Dave and cheers for reply.
I haven't been on here much recently myself until yesterday due to "the life thing"
The 76 and 77 issues are amongst the most collectable years and if complete with middle pin-up and in good condition can fetch varied prices.
A good average fair price would be £15 but certain issues with ,for example, Star Wars, Bond or Logans' Run tend to sell for a lot more.
So £7 is a bargain price.
I bought the 76 and 77 sets off a dealer for £800.

They had a light show against Leeds at the Den last night. Lions fans showed their derision by booing all the way through it. Its just not us.

I sure missed on open goal there, will be kicking myself for that. Still live and learn and that applies for collecting comics too.

Keith Weller did go to Chelsea after Millwall - I did see a repeated Big Match (or was it on one of my Big Match DVDs, the one of Chelsea - I have them all for all teams plus Studio and England comps) - where Brian Moore is talking about Chelsea's newest signing in 1970. Weller did, I believe, play a part in helping Chelsea win the Cup Winners' Cup in 71.

Yet, for all his help Chelsea then sold Weller on soon after, for the following season, to Leicester City for the same £100, 000 that Chelsea paid for him. Nevertheless, he made a formidable partnership with flamboyant Frank Worthington and Weller stay at Leicester until their 1978 relegation, after which he played for various United States clubs.

But Weller and Posse at Millwall - I believe still a revered duo by lions fans to this day.
