I need help
Oh Great Gurus of ComicsUK, I need your wise council.
Since the evolution of The Dandy to digital status, my number of regular comics is now down to a feeble five (as represented by my avatar).
Could anyone recommend a sixth comic that could join my list?

Commando. Also I noticed the Dark Knight UK edition in Tesco last night. Batman is the same vintage as The Dandy.

Sorry to be pedantic, but it's Dark Knight.

I know it was, I could hardly find the car....Digifiend wrote:Sorry to be pedantic, but it's Dark Knight.
I started to say something sensible but my parents took over my brain!
Re: I need help
Thanks for the feedback, guys. I really appreciate it.
Viz - I have read it but never really liked it.
Dark Knight - I have never read it so will go off to the shops today and see if I can get a copy.
Any other suggestions, anyone.
The Beano - Although I like the comic and I will get it from time to time, it is not enough to subscribe. It would have been different if DCT had merged the Beano and the Dandy together. If I was going to go for that type of comic, I think it would be the Phoenix which also has adventure strips thrown in.Lew Stringer wrote:Have you tried The Beano? or Viz?

Commando - I used to get Commando after the demise of Starblazer and although I quite liked it, it never really did it for me.stevezodiac wrote:Commando. Also I noticed the Dark Night UK edition in Tesco last night. Batman is the same vintage as The Dandy.

Re: I need help
JUDGE DREDD MEGAZINE is doing well considering it started in 1990.
It's pricey, but enough punters must be buying it.

Re: I need help
Thanks, ISPY. Way ahead of you as I have been getting Judge Dredd Megazine since it started.
Just to recap, my regulars are: 2000AD, Judge Dredd Megazine, Spaceship Away, Strip Magazine and CLiNT.
PS: I meant to say I regularly get five comics - not four.

You did, in your initial post on the thread.SID wrote:PS: I meant to say I regularly get five comics - not four.

That's because I corrected the inital post afterwards.
Sorry to cause confusion, Guru.

I got a copy of Batman the Dark Knight 7 today along with the following:stevezodiac wrote:Also I noticed the Dark Knight UK edition in Tesco last night. Batman is the same vintage as The Dandy.
Avengers Assemble 14
Batman 8
DC Universe Presents 51
The Incredible Hulks 11
The Mighty World of Marvel 44
All great comics and while I would be happy to get one or two regularly, the trouble is that I would normally buy these stories as graphic novels.
So a comic with original content. I am getting fussier and fussier.
Saying that, I do like Incredible Hulks.

Re: I need help
Well I read Zarjaz and Dogbreath - both really good fanzines but am not interested in getting regularly.
The comic I do like (even if it contains reprints) is The Incredible Hulks. I used to like the Marvel UK comics when I was younger and Hulk has always been one of my favourite characters. So with Panini producing a comic starring not only the Original, but also the Red and all the She-Hulks too, looks good. Enough for me to buy back issues from eBay to see.
Thanks for your help, guys.
PS: I will still be buying The Beano from time to time, if nothing else if only to say what great artists Lew & co are.

I would recommend The Phoenix started getting this after the print Dandy finished & have been very surprised now have a full subscription.
Planet of the Apes Catalysm by Boom Comics
Sherlock Holmes by Dynamite Comics

Thanks for that, Kev. Will take a look.

Thanks, Kev.
I took a look and although good magazines, they are not for me.
The Phoenix - Like The Beano, I would definitely get if I was the same age as the target audience or looking for a Dandy equivalent.
Even with The Dandy, although I loved it right to the end of its print run, it was because it was my favourite comic as a child that kept me reading it. I am just glad that DCT will still continue producing the annual which I will continue to collect religiously.
Anyway, I looked at some of the comics out there (and revisited some I wasn't sure of). In the end, I have decided to subscribe to Commando. I have read a few issues and decided I do like it - especially the Convict Commandos series. I am also getting The Incredible Hulks.
Thanks for your help, everyone.
