Though of course all this "hurr two males who always hang out with each other in traditional adventure stories must be!" stereotyping is actually even worse.

Anyway, there was Treasure Steel in Armitage and Devlin Waugh in Judge Dredd and his own stories. Though I think both of those characters first appeared in the Megazine.

The Sun ran the story as well, purposefully misconstruing it:

It's all a big fuss over nothing but it reminds people that the comic is still around, even if they do get the wrong end of the stick over the story.

My local newsagent has, of yesterday, put 2000AD on the top shelf. Whether it's connected to this tale or not remains to be seen.

I can't really see the publicity boosting sales to be honest so it seems a pointless exercise.

I don't know that it was pointless. Getting a story in the national press about 2000 AD - or any British comic - can only be a good thing.

I'm more suprised that any 2000 AD reader would be taken in by it. Surely anyone that's read a handful of Dredd stories will immediately know that the "Dredd in a gay kiss" story isn't what it seems?

Even if I hadn't read the story before my friend messaged me, I would have still laughed at her. Besides, there are a few things you DON'T want to know about Dredd and that is you don't want to see his face or know his sexual preferences.

I wonder if Tharg allowed this story so that it would get this very attention? As you say, free publicity.

2000AD's aimed at adults anyway these days, right? So does it matter if it's on a high shelf?

He should be safe enough up there with the girlies to keep an eye on him while he makes up his mind one way or the other.

He'd only notice the girlies to book them for lewd behaviour! Good for a "stiff" sentence in the cubes...
I started to say something sensible but my parents took over my brain!
