am i right in thinking that maurice dod used to draw dr who in the old tv comic. from john britton.

No John, Maurice wrote the strip until his death earlier this year, though he did draw it for a period when the original artist (Dennis Collins?) died. Bill Mevin took over the strip around 1992, and he drew 'Supercar', 'Space Patrol' and 'Dr Who' for TV Comic in the 1960s.

Sad news, though not being a Mirror reader I was under the assumption that the strip had long since vanished.

I used to have a big pile of Perishers collections. Great entertainment and beautiful art, plus it added the phrase "...eighteen years of Tory misrule..." to my personal lexicon.

A great strip....my favourite recurring sequence was ' the eyes in the sky',
if memory serves...the crabs in the rock pool get a visit every summer from the dog! I also loved the naturalistic drawing style and its gentle humour.

There was even a Perishers album, the Perishers Sing! It was quite a revelation to discover that Maisie sounded like a cross between Suzi Quatro and Bonnie Tyler, Wellington sounded like John Lennon and BH Calcutta sounded like Michael Bates in It Ain't Half Hot Mum! Marlon, if memory serves, sounded a bit like a British Tom Petty.
