Best of Buster, Topper, Hotspur and Bunty annuals

Post by wilsia »

Last year out of the blue DC Thomson brought us Best of Buster, Topper, Hotspur and Bunty annuals.

Unfortunately I have been informed by DCT that there are no plans for the same this year.

Lets hope Egmont do something.

Thanks, kash!

A mix of vintage weekly strips and newly-commissioned material for the annuals can work surprizingly well, as seen in the 1980 SPARKY annual, which has very early 70s Puss an Boots, alongside new, late-70s [probably 1978] artwork drawn especially for the annual, presented at larger scale.

The 50s/60s Topper/ Beezer books were an utter joy, with their lavish production values---these still look great today, even compared with modern digital colouring techniques.

Yeah, same here, Sainsbury's Local didn't have them. All the Sainsbury's stores I can easily get to are Locals. I wasn't that bothered after finding out about the content though - I more than likely already have the Beezer and Topper material.

Try eBay. I was too late last year to get the Best Of Bunty Annual, the only one of the four that I wanted, but I bought a mint copy at a very reasonable price on eBay sometime in January.

Pity there won't be a `best of Sparky` annual. Thomson's don't rate it highly and there were only 14 of them- shame! :(

If you are still looking for the annuals, there are digital copies available on comixology, under Retro Classics for £2.99

If you prefer hard copies there are books available on ebay, they seem to be selling for £7.50 + postage, there is a hotspur one for £2.00 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/The-Best-of-t ... 2a54c71d55
