Steve Larrabee in Rover
Can anyone tell me who drew the strip, The Trek of The Homeless Ones in Rover, 1957 #1659 - 1670? This is an odd one as Steve Larrabee was the regular star in Lone Star, published by DCMT/Atlas. Seems strange that DCT should feature this character. Thanks in anticipation.

Steve Larrabee was a British fictional cowboy created to publicise Lone Star Company's cowboy toys. They hired an actor called Roy Green to play the role in publicity events then a BBC TV series and a radio series. I assume that DCT licensed the character for this story.

Thanks David. I had the background but it did seem strange that DCT would pay for a licence for a comic strip in a story paper. Now I'm wondering if this was an existing Atlas strip or a new piece. I'd still like to know who drew it. Apart from Felix Mas on the odd cover, there 's hardly anything else signed in Lone Star Steve Larrabee strips. GCD has nothing.

Hi Paw,
I have 'Trek of the Homeless Ones' Rover 1659 - 1670 as being drawn by Ron Embleton. I very much doubt that it was created especially for the story paper and was most likely bought in as a reprint from elsewhere. I seem to remember Norman Wright and David Ashford mentioning this strip in an article they did on Ron Embleton for something like The Book & Magazine Collector.

Many thanks Kashgar. It looks good enough to be Ron Embleton but I'm not that good at artist i/d.
