Monster Fun Returns!

Post by George Shiers »

For those of you who haven't yet seen the news, Rebellion have announced the return of Monster Fun starting in April next year with a new issue every 2 months. It definitely seems like a weird title to pick given its short run, I'm surprised they didn't choose Buster, Whizzer and Chips or Whoopee, but I'm still excited for it. I wrote a brief blog post about it here

https://whackycomics.blogspot.com/2021/ ... r-fun.html

John also wrote a post on Down the Tubes

I can only see New Zealand prices on the website as thats where I live but for me its about $100 for a subscription, which includes a 'Halloween Spooktacular' next month.

The subscription price can be bought with or without the Halloween Spooktacular special.

As I already preordered the special through Newsstand.co.uk, I can purchase a year's subscription for around A$85. (Including postage) so it would be a worthwhile purchase.

This does look interesting and may take out the sub.

As you say, George; it's interesting that Monster Fun gets the green light over say a Cor!! Buster comic which has a couple of specials under its belt. Not that it really matters. The main thing is that Rebellion is releasing a title based on their archives. Fingers crossed, that they will do a similar thing with their adventure strips (a regular Smash! comic would be great).

Good to see another comic out there. There's a real dearth of good comics out these days, The Beano and Phoenix excluded, even when compared to only 20 years ago when I was a kid.

My copy was delayed because the Post Office damaged the packaging. The comic was okay though. :D

I just been reading my latest copy of Judge Dredd Megazine where it is explained why they opted for the Monster Fun name rather than Cor!! Buster which makes complete sense.

Loosely explained, basically it is a fun comic featuring monsters - hence Monster Fun.

I've got my comic now, I think it must have got lost in the post. I contacted their support and they sent me another comic which arrived promptly. :)

It's really good, my favourites being the Tom Paterson strips and Hell's angel.

On a semi-related noted I just realised there was another new comic a few years ago in a similar vein called Funny Monsters: https://comicsuk.co.uk/forum/viewtopic. ... ers#p82229

I assume thats closed by now however.

Maybe the Cor /Buster specials never sold in the quantities they wanted so maybe that's why they are doing Monster fun as a regular as kids might like monsters ,but i think its all us old fogeys that's been buying them specials, id love to see a few titles reborn as weeklies or fortnightly to sit alongside beano and 20000ad every week as 2 monthly is too long to wait and kids attention spans these days are non existant due to phones tablets etc.

The first issue of Monster Fun came through the post today.

Nicely done.

The Highs: The Leopard from Lime Street. The Lows: No Sweeny Toddler by Tom Patterson*.

Definitely looking forward to the next issue.

* Later found that there is a Web Exclusive version that does have Sweeny Toddler in: https://shop.2000ad.com/catalogue/MFU00 ... ve-edition
