Star Wars UK Monthly Comics Prices Marvel

As a child I collected Star Wars Weekly Marvel UK comic and stopped at some time during Return of the Jedi (second series).
I found a huge amount of these a few years back at my parents' house.
So I started filling in the gaps,issues that for some reason had been lost,using Ebay and 30th Century Comics.
Issues 140-171 were monthly.
For an unknown reason,whilst I have found it easy and cheap (£2-£5) to replace issues of the weekly,collecting the missing monthlies has been very difficult and expensive.
Like £20 - £50 each.
And still not sign of one of these (No 144).
Anyone any idea why these are priced so highly and hard to find?

Probably down to a small print run plus high demand from Star Wars collectors.
Must be lots more Star Wars collectors out there than British Comics collectors.

True on both points and maybe it was a small print run when it went monthly,as they went weekly again on the launch of ROTJ movie.

Yes,without checking but top of head I believe was issue 129.
I understand the collectability of this and have seen it priced up to £2,000 for a CGC high graded copy.
Most nice copies go for £70 plus.
I was very lucky with this as when I found my old SWs mags,I was missing almost all of The Empire Strikes Back Run (issues 118-135) but bought these as a set off Ebay for £150.
With the particular issue you mention,apparently it preceded the USA SW mag,despite these being reprints,of a cover of Bobba Fett.
I'm pretty sure though that Bobba is featured briefly in the preceding issue,128.

When I worked on the post office counter in SE London from 1985 to 1990 I used to cash giros for David Prowse whose gym was nearby. So I had the distinction of serving Darth Vader.

I believe that a lot of the current Star Wars franchise is indeed for very young people.
However...In 1977 it was a massive movie that kids and adults both enjoyed.
The Marvel comics of the film and stories beyond were rather great and are loved and respected by many adults,of which I am one.
But I was indeed a ten yr old when I started collecting this comic.
FOR ME ....IT IS NOSTALGIA and APPRECIATION of great art.
Certainly current Star Wars comics and films ARE aimed at very young children these days.
But back in my day,Han Solo was John Wayne and it was a cowboy film set in space.
Times change.
And Carrie Fisher was hot as hell.

I appreciated the Al Williamson Star Wars strips. Bought the squarebound softcover collections. Don't think I read them though.

Re John Wayne I believe his voice was used in A New Hope as a mosquito type character. According to a story released in May.

My favourite Star Wars artist was Carmine Infantino.

Wasn't aware Infantino had drawn Star Wars, he's one of my top five American artists alongside Kirby, Ditko, Gil Kane and Gulacy.
