The first ever Summer Special?

Post by stevezodiac »

Is this 1915 Rainbow the first ever Summer Special? It has 24 pages and, unlike the normal weekly issue, is stapled. I'll try to find a normal 1915 issue to check the page count but I'd guess it had 8 pages.

lovely find!

I think by 1915 you would have had plenty of issues of things like 'Ally Sloper's summer number' and whether you'd count that as a holiday special or not? I guess not if it was just a one-off re-branding of the regular Ally Sloper title which just happened to come out in the Summer.

Didn't notice before but the art is by Herbert Foxwell a fellow South East Londoner.
