Bully Beef, Jocks, Just Jimmy
Bully Beef, Jocks, Just Jimmy
I have been on these forums previously regarding my Uncle Jim (Jimmy Hughes) I have quite a lot of his original artwork (approx 20 pieces) I intend framing some of this, I have 4 Bully beef pieces ranging from 1967-1988, 3 Just Jimmy 1956-1957, 1 collage piece he drew for my daughter when she was born, all the rest are jocks.
I know he used to draw "corporal Clott" because I used to sit with him while he was drawing this, I have also been told he drew "Big Head & Thick Head", "One Tun & Two Tun", "Dirty Dick".
Does anyone know where I might be able to aquire some of these pieces of artwork to fill in the gaps? Thank You!
I have posted pictures on this forum previously, but can`t work it out again, as I was going to post pics of the artwork.

Great to hear you had a relative that drew Just Jimmy and other characters. Personally I searched on ebay to obtain my just Jimmy art, or deal direct with artist themselves, but obviously those pieces you need to fill in gaps are quite an age and sadly the artists are long gone.
Got some Just Jimmy pages myself, as said. They were drawn by Hugh Morren.

Well, hello there!

Re: Bully Beef, Jocks, Just Jimmy
Hugh Morren did regularly draw Just Jimmy, but my uncle used to draw it occasionally as he did with Corporal Clott, I am specifically looking for artwork by my uncle. Most of my uncles artwork I got from him many years ago. When he died in 2003 someone cleared his house and sold large amounts of his artwork (unknown to the family) I know there is artwork out there it is just a case of sourcing it.

I can confirm your memories don't fail you with the exception that I have never seen your uncle's work on Just Jimmy! I can't help with the original artwork, but for example your uncle drew Big Head and Thick Head for at least the 1966 World Cup Final issue of the Dandy. One Tun Two Tun was late 1960s (it appears in a Dandy book in 1970 or 1972), he and Eric Roberts broadly shared Dirty Dick, and he was the regular artist on Clott from 1970 (Davy' Law's death) until the mid-1980s

Fascinating reading how your uncle used to draw Just Jimmy strips Yekal. I'm always buying art myself so will keep an eye out for you if I come across any Corporal Clott pages on my travels.
PS: Found a little bit of info regarding a sale of Corporal Clott art sold at auction in 2016 that featured your uncle's work and might answer a few questions where they went.

And check out this link on a comic art forum I frequent.

Re: Bully Beef, Jocks, Just Jimmy
That would be great if you could look out for any of my Uncles artwork, especially Corporal Clott, but would appreciate any of his other works.
Regarding the auction of my Uncles artwork, I have no idea who actually managed to get this work, all I can assume is after his death someone cleared the house and kept the artwork to sell on, but this was NOT a family member. I have spoken to the auction house "Lyons & Turnbull" they refused to tell me who submitted the artwork for sale and wouldn`t give me the buyers details, but they did contact the buyer on my behalf to ask if they were prepared to sell any pieces, the answer was categorically NO.
I can supply my email address if required should you happen to find any artwork
Thanks

Unfortunately I wouldn’t move in those exalted circles, but you never know your luck here.

Hey, you're welcome Yekal. So sorry to hear that your uncle's work might have been sold without your family's consent. It's a shame they, the auction house , couldn't have at least acted as an intermediate rather than flatly refused to help. In fact, they facilitated and profited from what is effectively stolen property.Yekal wrote: ↑05 Feb 2025, 18:50That would be great if you could look out for any of my Uncles artwork, especially Corporal Clott, but would appreciate any of his other works.

Apologies Yekal, I didn't read your post properly. The auction house did aid you. Silly me. My oversight. Sad to hear the buyer flatly refused to part with any art bought after the auction house contacted them on your behalf. And although you now know where part of your uncle's work went to, and have pictures as reference, it's equally frustrating the outcome wasn't what you wanted.

Well, hello there!
