Who was Mike Brown?
Don't know if it's been brung up before but I always enjoyed Mike Brown's work in the 60s on stuff like The Group and Wiz War in Pow and Smash. I think he inked over Baxendale's layouts but he actually signed his name to the strips which was intriguing. What happened to him. Have a vague recollection that he worked in animation. And can I just say how much I like Graham Allen's cartoons in the Daily Express - he is probably the best caricaturist alive. (did i spell that right?) but is wasted always drawing footballers.

Re: Who was Mike Brown?
I don't know anything about Mike Brown I'm afraid but I think it's sad that he and Graham Allen have often been overlooked by some comic historians who attribute their work to Leo Baxendale when there's a clear distinction between all three styles. If books on comic history had mistaken John Buscema for Jack Kirby fans would be in uproar.stevezodiac wrote:Don't know if it's been brung up before but I always enjoyed Mike Brown's work in the 60s on stuff like The Group and Wiz War in Pow and Smash. Wiz Wars!
I've been trying to remember the name of that for years!
I think I caught it reprinted in Knockout or Shiver and Shake annuals though. Another great strip to try to track down...

The full title was Wizard Prang and Demon Druid in Wiz Wars! My all time favourite from that era has to be Bluebottle and Basher perhaps Mike Brown again?

Bluebottle and Basher was by Leo Baxendale Steve, although maybe Mike Brown "ghosted" a few strips - one of my fav strips as well.

If you're interested, I recently pinned down the Krazy appearances for Mike's fab character Smart Alec:
http://www.toonhound.com/smartalec.htm
It was a top strip from a top artist. Was he a reprint character, perhaps from those Odhams days?
Why didn't he get a better deal?
