Wanted to post some doggerel in this thread, am amazed to find it was over a year ago we had this conversation!

Anyway: "Ode to David Sutherland"

Paddy Brennan hurt his hand
Can't draw that much for a while
Call David Sutherland
He can mimic Paddy's style

Off goes Leo Baxendale
Guess for him we got outbid
Is David Sutherland avail-
able to draw the Bash Street Kids?

Dudley Watkins of reknown
the man who drew Biffo the Bear
Has laid his earthly burden down
Has David got some time to spare?

R. I. P. young Davy Law
Who can match his style for “Dennis”?
David Sutherland for sure
He's the man to draw the menace

Who has drawn without much pause
Bash street for half a century?
David Sutherland of course
the chameleon of D.C.T.

Here's a quick limerick that probably needs a bit more work:

There once was an artist called Sutherland
Who drew for the Beano from Scoterland
He drew the Bash Street Kids and Biffo the Bear
And Dennis the Menace with his mop of black hair
While dipping biscuits in tea with the otherhand.

Peter's sense of humour and understanding of limericks needs working...

I guess that could be considered as an example of poetic assonance - described in Educating Rita as deliberately "getting the rhyme wrong". :)

I think Peter didn't notice that the word was Scoterland. I dashed it off in about two minutes - give me a break - por favour?

Aw - I don't think Peter meant to sound critical. It's a very funny poem Steve! :)

I think I read it wrong the first time..the last line does work well,,,so I was wrong..sorry stevezodiac about that..it was late at night...I like the mop of black hair line.. :)

Pansy Poor the Strongmans Door...or the english way we say it Pansy Potter the Strongmans Daughter which doesn't rhythm!

Heres a limerick I made up as a kid..

There was a guy called Peter
Who went to the Happy Eater
He ate Burgers and buns
Had lots of fun
I'm no longer as skinny as a parking meter! :)

Either they've changed writers twice this year (in January and July), or David thinks Andy Fanton is on staff.
