Kolchak 'The Night Stalker' Art & Commision

Post by Into The Abyss »

Today had delivery of an art commision. Been corresponding over the weeks & months with the highly talented DC/Marvel/Aquaman artist Kirk Jarvinen. I was fortunate to purchase all the art he ever did, about 50+ pages, for the Moonstone Graphic Comic series that featured Karl Kolchak from the cult 1974 paranormal TV series 'The Night Stalker' starring the late great actor Darren McGavin. The very series that influenced the creator of The X-Files. The Idea I had for the commission was. Imagine if Karl Kolchak's Vampire case in the film/series led him to the town of Salem's Lot and the Marsden House? Well, this would have been the end result. 8)

P.S. Please excuse my camera phone picture quality. It doesn't do it justice. Also, I put the page in protective archival polymer bag and there's a bit of lens flare present.

Just sourced from the states another page of Kolchak 'The Night Stalker' art. This time by a different artist called Christopher Jones. It featured in the 2004 issue called 'Fever Pitch' , page 13, of the Moonstone graphic comic. See images below. Very cool.

In addition to my first post and recent addition, thought I'd change the thead title and add further images of other Kolchak 'The Night Stalker' Artwork that I own. Initially I uploaded them to the Non-Comics discussion thread when I first joined the forum but thought it would be better if all were in one place. :)

Great collection
Thanks Adam Eterno. Must have about 60 Kolchak' The Night Stalker' pages now. God knows how much they are worth individually? Would be interesting to know seeing they are by the Marvel/DC artist Kirk Jarvinen of Aquaman fame. 🤔

Yeah, had delivery today of that Christopher Jones page. Ironically I bought the Moonstone graphic comic before I contacted the American seller about the artwork. A bit risky I know but we agreed a price and I bought it. 🙂

Just obtained from seller in America a page of very cool Kolchak "The Night Stalker" study by comic artist Loston Wallace. Love how he captured the character Carl Kolchak played by the late great Darren McGavin in various poses. :)

Thanks jim224. Yeah, the art commission is superb. And it's such an iconic series, so much so, that I bought it on dvd three times. Love both feature films too. My favourite series episode, "The Vampire."

Big fan of actor Darren McGavin . I find he played Kolchak like Peter Falk did, Columbo. Underestimate both at your peril. Also loved Darren MCGavin in the 1983 cult classic, "Christmas Story" and in the superb made for TV film , "Hanger 18", not forgetting he also starred in Ray Bradbury's, 1979, The Martian Chronicles.

The early/mid 1970s had some iconic horror series. The wonderful Rod Sterling classic, The Night Gallery. And James Coburn's, The Dark Room. And less we forget the fantastic, Hardy Boys & Nancy Drew Mysteries. The nearest I think we've ever come to a live action Scooby Doo series. The opening music and sequence with the maze was epic.

Regarding Kolchak. I can remember watching , The Night Stalker, first back in 1987 when they started transmitting TV beyond midnight. Think it was on around 1:30pm in the morning? Oddly enough around the same time they aired the hilarious Married With Children TV show featuring shoe salesman Al Bundy for the first time on UK television lol.

Anyway, back to the Night Stalker art. I initially purchased over three month period around 58 pages off artist Kirk Jarvinen. Basically all the art he did for two comics involved in. He signed and included both in with the art bought. I then arranged for him to do the commission for me just as the Covid pandemic started. Great timing on my part, he says rolling his eyes.

Anyway, Kirk Jarvinen and inker friend Jason Moore pulled out all the stops. And although it took about 8 months to complete was worth the wait. Always on the lookout for pages of Night Stalker artwork me hence my recent find. Nice too.
