Doctor Who Influences

Discuss all the girls comics that have appeared over the years. Excellent titles like Bunty, Misty, Spellbound, Tammy and June, amongst many others, can all be remembered here.

Isn't that half the fun, Phil? The other half of course is being able to complain when Admin's off-topic jackboots stamp all over it.
To be brutally honest, we're as likely to take the topic off down the road less travelled as anyone.

Sadly there's no date on the book Norman, and even more regrettably it doesn't contain any Raymond Sheppard art. Both the cover and interior illustrations were supplied by David Walsh, with some great images of postwar London. The publisher was 'Bulldog Books' aka 'Publicity Products London', while it was printed by Purnell & Sons.

While we're on the subject of 1950s illustrators - and taking this thread even further from Doctor Who in girls' comics - I wonder what Norman's opinion of this tiny, unsigned 1956 illustration from Lilliput no.229 is?

Personally I'm in two minds, but there are enough similarities to Frank Bellamy's style (particularly the nearside boot and leg) to make me think that he could have drawn it. Beyond that I can't think of any other Lilliput contributors who'd be more likely candidates.

(For those who don't know Norman maintains a couple of superb websites dedicated to Frank Bellamy and Raymond Sheppard, and is a leading authority on the work of those two fine artists).

Do you know there are days when I feel stupid Phil. I spotted this after buying the magazine for the excellent Raymond Sheppard illos and suspected I missed it when browsing the Lilliputs in the British Library as I made no note. Since then I have it down as Frank Bellamy's work and I will now blog about it
