The use of the word 'Who?' in a DCT girls' title is an infrequent presence, but a presence nonetheless, most repeatedly used in 'Who Is Judy Parker?', which appeared in the first issue of MANDY, and was repeated there at least twice. It also appeared in M&J from issue 65 as a MANDY CLASSIC. Other appearances include 'Who Is Mystine?' in DEBBIE, 'Who Wants To Be Head?' in NIKKI, issue 1, 'Who Am I?' in NIKKI from 132, and in DIANA from 300. 'Who Is It?' in M&J from 97, Who Hates Steve? in M&J from 197, Who Is Sad Sally? in MANDY from 546, repeated from 897, 'Who Is 'J'? in MANDY from 919, 'Who Is The Real Rita?' in MANDY from 1160, and Who's To Be Miss World?, which starts in DIANA 253.

Goof wrote:There was a bit of a fashion in DCT annuals during the 80's for spooky stories with a strong twist in the tail. Judy produced several where characters who acted and thought like living people turned out at the last minute to be ghosts.
I think that one wore a bit thin after a while.

True if you are reading a lot of these annuals in a row, the "she was a ghost all along" seems over done. Although I do find it interesting that movies like "The Sixth Sense" and "The Others" were praised for such a twist when they came out, maybe viewers hadn't read the dozens of stories with that plot before!

Yes it's also used in a black and white episode of the Twilight zone, called Hitch-hiker as well as a few times in Tales from the crypt comics and DC House of Mystery.

It means sloppy writing. Someone came up with an idea for a story but they couldn't be arsed to give it any credible denouement.

How exactly, Alan, do you provide a 'credible denouement' to a ghost story? If you were a writer of ghost stories, how would you do it? Given that I don't believe in ghosts, how would you persuade me?

You don't believe in ghosts? You should have watched the new episode of Most Haunted last night. I literally jumped out of my skin when the bicycle in the hall moved forward.☺️ Then there was a loud knocking at the door several times but when they rushed out nobody was there.

Denouments never stopped Month Python. Many of their sketches lacked the traditional punchline as they just couldn't think of one.

Or Spike Millgan's ending to many a sketch 'What are we going to do now?'

Human beings can't do that, Steve, although I believe that some lesser species can shed theirs. Humans would immediately have the problem of deciding how and where to dispose of the skin they have jumped out of. Local councils throughout the nation would need to provide millions of roadside skin bins, and workers to empty them, which would at least have the advantage of seriously reducing the number of people claiming the job-seekers' allowance.

Someone used that phrase in work a few years ago so I drew a cartoon of a skeleton jumping out of its skin which was pinned above his desk for a while afterwards. Obviously I'm aware of the incorrect use of literally but I believe the light hearted tone of your reply meant you were aware I was aware.

I'd forgotten about Spike Milligan's Q series not using punchlines. I have some of his Milligna radio shows on reel to reel tape I recorded around 1971/71. Not even sure if the BBC still has copies as I've never heard it repeated.

Yes, Steve, you have got it in one. I was aware that you were aware that I was aware. No question about that at all. :) :D

I've watched hundreds of paranormal TV shows but the most unsettling was the Suzy doll episode of Paranormal Witness. I don't want to ever watch that one again. It's on YouTube if anyone is brave enough.
