Who are the most evil girls in girls comics?

Discuss all the girls comics that have appeared over the years. Excellent titles like Bunty, Misty, Spellbound, Tammy and June, amongst many others, can all be remembered here.

Who are the most evil girls in girls comics?

Post by Tammyfan »

I have been thinking about a list of the most evil girls in girls comics, and hopefully narrow it down to 10. Failing that, 20. I am looking for nasty, despicable girls who are capable of anything, without any show of remorse or redemption, and no redeeming qualities. So far I am thinking of:

Carol Davies from Captain Carol (Bunty) https://girlscomicsofyesterday.com/?s=captain+carol. It's hard to beat getting her own best friend expelled, just to get her place as school captain.

Siddons from the Four Friends at Spartan School (Tammy) https://jintycomic.wordpress.com/?s=four+friends. So far, the only bad girl I've seen in girls' comics who's capable of murder!

Stacey from The Slave of Form 3B (Jinty) https://jintycomic.wordpress.com/?s=form+3b. Refuses to get help when her tricks leave her victim in danger of her life.

The Honourable S.J. (Judy) https://girlscomicsofyesterday.com/2013 ... rable-s-j/. Judy's regular resident bad girl just has to be on this list.

Josie Goulden from Move Over, Maria (Bunty) https://girlscomicsofyesterday.com/?s=move+over+maria. When it comes to the face of an angel and the heart of a devil, it doesn't get more evil than this.

Nancy Norden aka Nikki Norden from "Be Nice to Nancy!" (Judy) aka Be Nice to Nikki (MJ) https://girlscomicsofyesterday.com/?s=be+nice+to+nancy. You must set a world record when you make yourself the most hated pupil in the school in only one day, and you get worse from there.

Perfecta from Land of No Tears (Jinty) https://jintycomic.wordpress.com/?s=land+of+no+tears. The Queen of Cold Fish.

Jean Marlow from Waves of Fear (Jinty) https://jintycomic.wordpress.com/2014/0 ... fear-1979/. Her viciousness just piles up against the girl she's always hated.

Carol-Anne Brabazon from Down with St. Desmond's! (Bunty) aka Out to Ruin St. Roslyn's (Lucky Charm) https://girlscomicsofyesterday.com/2013 ... -desmonds/. Absolutely no apology for what she did to ruin a school although she eventually finds out she was mistaken.

Bettina Clarke aka Linda Lee from The Dark Secret of Blind Bettina aka The Lying Eyes of Linda Lee (Mandy). Personally, I would rank this girl the most evil for what she did to the rabbit in the story! https://girlscomicsofyesterday.com/?s=linda+lee

Any other thoughts, suggestions, or different ideas about the possibilities so far are welcome.

(Dis)honourable mention: Sally Cartwright from When Harry Dumped Sally (Bunty) https://girlscomicsofyesterday.com/?s=w ... mped+sally. Feeling upset and angry over the way her boyfriend dumped her is understandable, but getting him into ever-increasing trouble at school without a thought or flicker of remorse as to where it might end up takes revenge way too far.

Will consult my collections of June, Sally, Princess Tina and Misty and will tell you of any I find. Interesting subject.

Thank you. I find Rosie Belcher of Misty's "Hush, Hush, Sweet Rachel" the most repulsive girl in girls' comics, but I'm not sure how high she ranks on the evil scale. Maybe I'll put her in on the basis on how disgusting she is.

One possible from the Picture Libraries is “The Minx” (Mandy PSL 274). This is a cuckoo in the nest story, which broadly follows a familiar path of a girl from a dysfunctional background who targets a family of doting parents and tries to displace their rather pampered daughter by ruthless means. It’s unusually nasty in two ways. Firstly, the highly geared planning the cuckoo brings to the job. As her way in, she employs (and pays) a gang of street boys to engineer an “accident” to set the daughter up for the cuckoo to “rescue” her from drowning. It’s quite a complex scam and goes like clockwork – this team has done this kind of thing before. Secondly, there is not a scrap of remorse when she is unmasked at the end. On the contrary, she turns on the waterworks and produces an impromptu sob story which the pea-brained parents swallow whole, and her triumphant look to camera in the last panel shows quite clearly that she’s got them where she wants them. The whole effect is sharpened and made horribly realistic by Ron Lumsden’s art.

Another rather less evil one which appealed to me, and for a rather odd reason. Jinty’s “The Kat and Mouse Game” (https://jintycomic.wordpress.com/2016/1 ... e-1974-75/ ) seems to me unusual in having an utterly conscienceless protagonist who actually manages to get the reader’s (well, this reader’s) sympathy. I admit that this is partly due to the fact that the heroine Mouse is an unbearable drip, but it’s mostly down to the way that the villain Kat turns out to be her own worst enemy. From the point where her schemes start to go badly wrong until the final despairing attempt to beat Mouse which causes her to destroy her own career, I found myself actually feeling sorry for her. She’s the most human character in the story, and in the end this makes her look more like a tragic heroine than a straight villain.

I presume the pampered daughter swallowed it as well?

It reminds me of Fenella Briars in Tammy's "No Haven for Hayley", but this cuckoo is used as a plot device, not the main plot driver. I can just see her pulling the same waterworks on the sappy mother when a woman saw through her and offered to help the pushed-out daughter sort things out. Instead, it scared the cuckoo into a hasty exit, with the sob story that she felt unwelcome. But the mother was not set straight about the cuckoo, leading to the disaster at the climax of the story.

I know The Kat and Mouse Game. Yes, the protagonist is such a gullible sap it is annoying at times. I am not sure I'd regard Kat as a tragic heroine. Maybe a tragic villain, and certainly one who destroyed herself.

An interesting question. The answer is, we’re left in doubt.

The cuckoo (Tina) is unmasked when the father overhears her boasting to the daughter (Karen) how she “can twist your parents round my little finger” and openly admitting every scheme she’s used to worm her way into their household. Despite this, when she turns on the crocodile tears and tells the parents how she “just wanted to see what it would be like to be part of a happy family” (!!), the mother gives her a big hug and says to Karen “I’m sure we can all forgive and forget in time”. Karen replies “I guess so”. Taken on its own, that sounds like a willingness to be reconciled, but Lumsden’s art tells another story. Karen’s worn, defeated expression looks far more like a recognition that she can no longer fight her parents’ infatuation with Tina and will have to take second place in her own home in future. Take your pick.

Poor Karen. Maybe she can come up with her own scheme to get rid of Tina? Or, more likely, run off, leaving a note telling her parents that if they're so keen on that horrible Tina, they can jolly well have her.

oh i LOVE this question :D There are loads in the misty one-shots but that feels like a bit of cheat as they're all designed to be one-dimensional moral lessons (but some notable mentions might be Perri who falsely enters an essay competition for disabled children and ends up in a wheelchair (“The Prize!” Holiday Special 1979) or gang leader Julia from “Room for One More” (#39) who threatens a shopkeeper that they will “do him over proper,” and go on a rampage until she is run over). My fave from the Misty series would def be bully Norma from Moonchild who seems unrelentingly violent and malicious (“Rosemary deserves to be hurt for being so weird,” #7; “She deserves to be punished for being so creepy,” #10).

Yes, I forgot about Norma Sykes.

I have just remembered another John Armstrong girl who edges Norma out on evil: Annie from Tammy's "Katie on Thin Ice." After all, Norma is not vicious enough to do anything to imperil people's lives, but this girl is. At the end, she even commits murder when she discovers she's been crossed. https://jintycomic.wordpress.com/?s=Katie+on+thin+ice On the other hand, Norma is better remembered, has more character development, and unlike Annie, she is the main villain of the piece.

Oh, I forgot to lay ground rules about the types of stories to consider here, thank you for the thought. It will be confined to serials only. No PSLs, complete stories, holiday specials or annuals.
