Re: what was bad about the seventies:
This morning, I rediscovered this absolute gem of tastelessness, which resulted from the ITV strike of 1979, which kept the entire channel off-screen for two months in the summer.
When ITV did finally reappear, this absolutely astonishing [when viewed today] , perky, cheesy tune was ushered in to reintroduce the back-on-air channel.
I warn you, this is not for the faint-of-heart!:

No doubt the jingle writers had a brief to produce a jingle to “Welcome home ITV†They certainly earned their money that day!
Re: what was bad about the seventies:
Yeah, but the probably lost money before that due to programmes not getting made.

Here's a dollop of early 70s fare, which sums up that imperfect period perfectly.
Also, love the opening graphics, which are clearly inspired by D C Thomson comics of the day---check out the George Martin 'Greedy Pigg-alike! And there's even a subliminal glimpse of Billy Bunter, adorning a cartoon cracker: inoffensive, innocuous stuff. ; and doesn't Tarby look young?!:

The cigar smoker at 0:52 looks like a grown up version of Fatty from Bash Street!

Yes, that's what I thought Digi: the graphic designer had clearly consulted some contemporary comics!
