I have the first 16 (yes 16) series of Grange Hill on DVD (they are all taken from old videos, so the quality is a little variable), they are on something like 45 DVDs but if anyone is interested in any of those, I'm sure I could do copies (although the first few series are available on DVD already and I wouldn't want the FACT guys banging on my door)
Personally, being of an age, I am mostly interested in the first 6 or 7 series, as I like to look at the decor/shops/cars etc. of the era. I left school in '86 so lost interest by then. Still, nice to dip on every now and then....
Series 2 contains the classically offensive Tricia Yeates line "Don't worry Benny, it's not your fault you're a ni*no*" (wasn't sure how to censor that, but i'm sure you know what was said) utterly inexcusable, even in 1978

Wonderful piece of context, though - like Tucker and Alan, Trisha didn't care that Benny was black, unlike Doyle, and it was taken as the joke it was meant to be. It wasn't censored from the official DVD.

Agreed, the fascination there is the language used by Trisha, although not meant offensively, it perfectly shows how the way people spoke then was so different to today, and for that, it is an historical reference point. In a similar way as when old newsreel footage is shown and the narrator uses clipped English which is difficult to find these days, and the Neighbours/Home and Away influence on the raised inflection that has surfaced over the last quarter of a century. There are many other examples of how our language and the words that we use are constantly changing.
Perhaps that's why I enjoy Grange Hill now, not so much for the storylines but for the view to the past that it provides. I bet Phil Redmond never expected that!

That's one of the reasons I like old comics. For example it seems so weird to me that children being hit by strangers for misbehaving seemed to be acceptable less than 40 years ago.

I loved grange hill and have been waiting for what seems like years waiting for bbc to release s5 onwards on dvd which i doubt they will so & they always seemed to show the kids reading old comics.djdogfart i would defo be interested in s5-16 after xmas.

Does anyone remember there being a Dandy advert on the TV? I vaguely remember seeing one which had desperate dan playing american football and culminated in a picture of the comic and a voice over saying "Always keep a Dandy Handy"?

I assume it would be mid to late 1990s?
