I've just discovered Batman Brave and bold and Young Justice which are all good...

What Marvel animation which is worth seeking out today or from the past?

I'm not really into real adult animation..

Batman the animated series is about the right level which I've been rewatching again...the stories are very well done and is like a movie sometimes..

he he he I remember watching Spider-man and his amazing friends...with Fire Star!

Not Marvel, Peter, but I love the 1940s SUPERMAN series put out by Fleischer---better than most of the live-action films I thinks.

The 90s X-Men series is very close to the comic book storylines, with only the occasional alteration due to adapting stories with different characters (Beast replaces Nightcrawler and Jubilee replaces Kitty Pryde in certain episodes, because the TV show used the current roster but adapted some plots from the 80s).

The Batman animation series was very inspired by this...have you seen this spy..

For some reason DC have a much better track record with animation than Marvel, although with live action movies it's the other way around. The only Marvel animation I have any time for is X-Men Evolution. The rest vary from okay (Avengers World's Mightiest Heroes season 1 but not season 2) to terrible (almost everything else).

Justice League Unlimited is possibly the best DC, although I'm very fond of Teen Titans. The current Beware the Batman isn't bad, either. If you can find the DC Nation shorts there's some fantastic stuff there, too. Particularly Super Best Friends Forever (Supergirl, Batgirl, and Wonder Girl together).

Yes, an animation expert informed me of this only recently, Peter----to be honest it never struck me until it was pointed out to me , but I can sure the the 40s influence on the 90s animated TV Batman now!

For me DC is head and shoulders above Marvel in this instance (mostly due to Bruce Timms great designs) - As noted previously Justice league and Justice League Unlimited (DC) are truly amazing cartoons for fanboys you name a DC character chances are they appeared in these series especially Justice League Unlimited -I can also recommend Teen Titans Go (love thi sone in a animie style), the entire Batman animated series (loads of these on sale for £2) is great fun as is the BATMAN Beyond series which is sometimes overlooked (features a Batman of the future with a very old Bruce Wayne helping him out) The Green Lantern CGI animated series isn't too bad either as is the Superman the animated series (from the 90s I think- Bruce Timm involved again) an short lived DC animated series I enjoyed (as loved the comic) was Superboy and Legion of Superheroes - not great but good old fshioed Superman stuff ) - others cartoons in this genre worth checking out are Freakazoid (a Bruce Timm early outing) you would need to check it out online as not seen this on TV in ages very "mad" and the Tick cartoon (not live action) had its moments - Disneys Darkwing Duck was funny also as was a series called Gargoyles

Darkwing Duck was an excellent superhero parody. I particularly liked the two Splatter Phoenix episodes, which are full of clever visual art jokes.

The original Spidey was a cut above the rest but DC is the best generally. The X-Men and 90s Hulk though were pretty good. Anyone seen Daffy Duck as Duck Dodgers when he steals Hal Jordan's power ring to become the Green Loontern?

I will also give a mention to the Dungeons and Dragons cartoon.That was still basically superheroes. But whoever thought Spider-Woman would be the ideal candidate for a cartoon? Strange old choice there.

^Regards Hulk, the first season anyway. The second season, thanks to executive meddling, wasn't so good.

Just watching my first Green Lantern animated series cartoon. Must confess, I have no idea what's happening. Who are these other people (besides Kilowog)? What are the Red Lanterns (I know there was a mini-series/DC-wide event but I never bought it)? Why is GL in a spaceship? Why isn't he using his power ring?

Cartoons seem to have gone the way of comics and movies. If you're not a dedicated fanboy, you're lost.

I guess you're not watching it from the beginning. It's more of a serial than most western cartoons, so coming in somewhere in the middle is problematic. There are a couple of standalones, like the excellent steampunk episode, but mostly it's two tediously drawn out story arcs with more than a sprinkling of misogyny.

Red Lanterns are part of the new"DC " new 52" and are core to the new Green Lantern Universe (along with Black Lanterns and Blue Lanterns) as with most things in comics a good idea that was overused (imho) anyway Red Lanterns went on to have their own monthly comic from the mini series- as Marionette says the GL CGI animated series is mostly one long serial that most others so you need to get in at the start really - only real reference outside the Green Lantern specific universe ( that I recall) was when a Hawkman (a Thangorian?) was in one episode
