Space Patrol coming to talking pictures tv in June. I watched it as a kid in the early sixties. A crude puppet show but enjoyable. I've never forgotten the Martian always saying "I'm hungry" and Slim the Venusian replying "you're always thinking of your stomach".

Roberta Leigh (producer of this show) was the employer of a certain Gerry Anderson,who helped her with her shows "Twizzle" and "Torchy the Battery boy".
Anderson then went totally independent and made "Four Feather Falls" in 1960.
In 1962 Anderson launched "Fireball XL5" two months before Roberta Leigh launched "Space Patrol".
Both shows were popular.
Anderson followed with Stingray and the competition was over.

Don't forget Supercar which preceded Fireball XL5. A bit more lightweight than the later shows though.

So nice to be reminded of it,was actually slightly before my time but have a couple of issues.
I think that "Wham" was the second UK comic to reprint Marvel stuff, "Creepy Worlds" did this first.
I think, could be wrong.

I had an email read out on The Footage Detectives but had missed it, a friend saw it though and told me so I accessed the episode through my connected TV, didn't need to register or anything. I just pressed the red button on the channel and it takes you to catch up list.

I had my name and part of the e mail I sent on last Sunday's "Footage Detectives" last Sunday, in a piece I wrote about MacFisheries shops and their later Mac Market supermarkets. Real blasts from the past.

I often send TPTV long e mails full of facts triggered by things seen and said on The Footage Detectives.

Occasionally, I've had bits read out; Mike Read once called me a "veritable font of knowledge". I've provided information on such areas as Belle Vue circus in Manchester, Spangles sweets, the Isle Of man, the 1965 British Song Contest, Kenny Lynch, Alan Klein, Gordon Rollings, old traffic signs amongst other stuff.

I just enjoy looking at and sharing social history of which old films provide a lot of that.

I've read that they've got some other fantastic classic TV shows lined up to show on TPTV, including the "Hammer House Of Mystery And Suspense" which I used to enjoy watching on late night ITV during the late 80s, and 1970s drama series" Love For Lydia" which I can remember being on back then, but never saw it.

I've been enjoying the repeats of such shows as "Manhunt", "The Brothers", "Dixon Of Dock Green", "The Saint" (in monochrome) "Space Patrol" and "The Beverly Hillbillies" some of which have not been repeated for far too long and too many years.

Also great to see the Gerry and Sylvia Anderson stuff on again, and I always enjoy watching the likes of "Budgie" "Gideon's Way" and "The Human Jungle", no matter how many times over and over again.

The AP in "AP Films" seen up to the end of the first series of "Thunderbirds" stood for Anderson-Provis, who was Gerry's then business partner Arthur Provis. They worked together up to "SuperCar" and then the film "Crossroads to Crime" (starring George Murcel who voiced Professor Popkiss in the first series of "Supercar"), then split up over disagreements over how they wanted to make and the direction of their new space set series project. So Provis re-joined Roberta Leigh for "Space Patrol" whilst Anderson made "Fireball XL5".

Space Patrol was wiped,much like early Dr Who episodes and only a few episodes existed until all films were found in a garage.
Bizzare but true.
If only all the missing episodes of Dr Who/The Avengers/Z Cars etc could one day also be found in a garage !!

I watched Space Patrol first time around but am enjoying it even more now, its better than I remembered. Marla is my favourite character. She's like an early Seven of Nine.

I have only managed to watch a few minutes here and there as my wife switches the channel over.
I need a catch up tv thing with this so I can watch it when she's asleep and I'm up all night on Fridays.
Unlike many other classic series,I don't have this on DVD and wasn't alive when it was broadcast.
I've read the TV Comic strip (a few issues of it I mean).

There is a TPTV Encore site where you can catch up on things shown on TPTV. They usually hold most TV and films they show on there for a week after their transmission.

It's a great site to be on; also have some items always on there to watch including a lot of material made by ITV franchise Southern Television, including episodes of "Runaround", "Hogg's Back" and some "Freewheelers".

I too love Mala from "Space Patrol". Shame there's not more female characters in the series!

I hope they'd also find in the garage lost episodes of such shows as "Thank Your Lucky Stars", "Ready Steady Go", "Top Of The Pops" (in spite of one of their hosts), plus 2Mystery and Suspense" and "GS5" ("Ghost Squad" spin-off) amongst many others.

I think it was channel 4 that repeated Ready Steady Go some years ago I recorded them onto vhs tapes, Dave Clark of the Dave Clark 5 owns the rights to the series. Talking Pictures has a limited budget.
