Tiger comic

Post by Richard S. »

The dummy copy of 'Tiger' has been found in the collection of the late editor Derek Birnage. This is the absolute first appearance of Roy of the Rovers. Interestingly the comic isn't even called 'Tiger' and Melchester Rovers aren't playing in red & yellow! More details here

Thanks for this post Richard.Really brilliant seeing the first appearance of Roy and fascinating that "Tiger" was almost never made and could have simply been a continuation of "The Champion".
I think "Tiger" was one of the first comics I ever got and I remember when Roy got his own comic.
Great post and also have been reading your site recently which is excellent.

An excellent article-find Richard. Thank you.

Just when we thought we knew 'everything' about the Tiger comic, this comes along.

I wonder what other hidden gems are out there about British comics?

Al

Thanks Al,

If you're into 'hidden gens' then how about today's post on my blog?

more pages from Leo Baxendales's lost project 'Supecomic' have recently been auctioned off, I've updated my record of all the pages we've now seen - maybe even more pages are yet out there waiting to be discovered??
