For a reprint comic,this one sticks in the mind.It's glossy pages and sheer black and white illustrations are firmly embedded in my mind.Kelly's Eye and The Steel Claw and The Spider will always be favs.It introduced many youngsters in the seventies to erstwhile heroes of the sixties,which when you are 8 or 9 even back then was a lifetime ago.Definitely responsible for fostering my lifelong love of comics!

Vulcan was a big favourite of mine and being fortunate to live in Scotland I was able to begin reading it from the very first issue in March 1975 (rather than the National editions that started much later that same year),particularly as it allowed me to enjoy the Trigan Empire story from it's origins - for which I will always be grateful, as it definately cemented my love of comics for the rest of my life.
Likewise, Kelly's Eye and Mytek The Mighty all started with their origin stories in that first Scottish edition.
I remember that the comic was advertised on TV earlier in it's debut week and I bought it excitedly on the Saturday morning with my pocket-money from our local shop. As with all other comics a free gift was used to entice us young punters - in this case a dancing skeleton, which looked much more enticing on the TV advert !

I only realised that the "VULCAN's'" I bought as a kid were Scottish and not British editions when I read about it on this site - It was a really good format and think it would be successful today (format and the VULCAN) with the general acceptance of different types of publication now (and the general US comic look it had) Alwyas wishe dit had a letters page though was really disapointed when in meged with the Valiant and was printed in newspring as a pull out section - great idea and brillaint artwork as well. Any ideas why the name VULCAN was used pretty cool name I thought (M Spock - matches etc?)

Like you Cap, I was also pleasantly suprised to learn on the internet that Scotland wasn't just a guinee pig for the Poll Tax
but we'd also been fortunate to have Vulcan for 6 months before our UK cousins
and had been able to enjoy all the early introduction tales of some of the very best comics characters from the 60s.
Like most people, my comics collection (including my beloved full run of Vulcans) was eventually thrown out when I mistakingly thought I had outgrown them and regretted that faulty thinking for a long time after
I've managed to re-build my Vulcan collection to near completion (primarily thanks to Arthur's Book Shop in Glasgow) and am now just missing 4 of the Scottish editions - however that's been the case for over 3 years now and even with my introduction to the internet it's seems to be impossible to get my grubby hands on the missing issues

Not being a particular bright individual, it took me ages to realise that Vulcan was a reprint comic.
But I must say, it has been (IMHO) that it has been the best reprint publication before and since its rise and fall.
