CLiNT: New newsstand comic from Mark Millar/Titan!

If they were worried about adult content, they probably wouldn't sell Viz...

Viz is the most childish thing on the shelves!Digifiend wrote:If they were worried about adult content, they probably wouldn't sell Viz...

I didn't mention content Digi. I was talking about the title. Unless I've missed some new streetwise slang, "Viz" couldn't be mistaken for a rude word.Digifiend wrote:If they were worried about adult content, they probably wouldn't sell Viz...
However, as you've brought it up, Smiths refused to sell Viz for years on the grounds that they thought the content was offensive. Then as soon as Viz started selling like hotcakes in independent newsagents they suddenly fell off their high horse and wanted a piece of the action. These days they're more relaxed about content so I doubt they'll bat an eyelid at any profanity inside CLiNT.

Knowing current newsagent practice it will probably be on the bottom shelf anyway, and the Beano will be on the top!
Re: New comic launching in September

Viz ran the character 'Sweary Mary' just to get at WH Smiths, the printers even messed up a great gag for the cover were it was made to look like a WH Smiths employee had covered up all the swearwords on the front page. They put censor bars over the biro scribbled out swearing. They even created the word FITBIN which is supposed to be the worlds worst swearword just to get a swearword on the cover!, although it didn't really catch on as you can see its not been censored!Lew Stringer wrote:I didn't mention content Digi. CLiNT: New newsstand comic from Mark Millar/Titan! and New comic launching in September have now been merged. Hopefully, no one has lost any posts from their count.
I started to say something sensible but my parents took over my brain!
Re: CLiNT: New newsstand comic from Mark Millar/Titan!
Well, this is out next Thursday... am quite looking forward to it.
100 pages for £3.99... that's £1 less than I was expecting.
I did enjoy Kick Ass, Turf seems good fun, Nemesis is entertaining enough...
Say what you like about Mark Millar, the fact that a new, adult-orientated comic is launching on newsstands is something to be celebrated, no?

I bought issue 1 yesterday and it lives up (or rather down) to my expectations.

The review is very much "knives out". But on the plus side i might start getting the Megazine again.

I presume you bought if from Forbidden Planet? It's not in the newsagents around here yet anyway. (FP and Titan are owned by the same people so FP always put Titan mags out early.)

Yep, the "old" Forbidden Planet not the "newer" Forbidden Planet International, though they might have it too!

I'd be surprised if they did because they're rivals. The reason FP put Titan's mags out early is to get the advantage over rival shops. I presume Thursday will be the day everyone else gets their copies.felneymike wrote:Yep, the "old" Forbidden Planet not the "newer" Forbidden Planet International, though they might have it too!

It's easy to tell the difference. FPI is a comic shop with a toys section. FP is a toy shop with a comics section
Re: CLiNT: New newsstand comic from Mark Millar/Titan!
So which of the two is the one on Shaftesbury Avenue? And the Lime Street one?

Shaftesbury Avenue is Forbidden Planet, with connections to Titan Books. Basically FP has that red/black rocketship logo that Rian Hughes designed.NP wrote:So which of the two is the one on Shaftesbury Avenue? And the Lime Street one?
FP International is the rival one, with the silver/black logo, and they own Nostalgia & Comics in Brum and World's Apart in Liverpool's Lime Street.
The owners of Forbidden Planet had a major falling out years ago but both wanted to retain the name, so Forbidden Planet International became the other (and better imho) chain.
