It was reprinted in Greece, via "Blek" magazine.

Your name of it Taffie is a clue of sort. It could be a reprint of Tuffy, A Boy All Alone. The synopsis is basically a kid who is orphaned but is a keen footballer and a high performing academic who wants to make it to college but orphaned and left with an uncaring aunt/uncle(?) who only see him as a cash cow, Tuffy is up against it.

It's definitely a D C Thomson story and it's either from Champ, Scoop, Buddy or Spike.
