Slump in activity
Re: Slump in activity
Thanks, Phoenix. I tried going back after reading your post, but to no avail. Next time I will copy the text prior to hitting the submit button.
Re: Slump in activity
Presumably you went somewhere else on the forum, or even logged out, before going back after reading my post. Trust me, what I said does work. Of course there's nothing wrong with printing off a copy of your post, but you would still have to type it out again if a similar situation occurs in future, and you don't then try my suggested procedure.paw broon wrote:Thanks, Phoenix. Re: Slump in activity
I get around this by 'sending' partially-written posts and adding the text as seperate blocks.
Re: Slump in activity
I have now changed the time-out limit from 2 hours to 4 hours.
Hope this will help.

Thanks Al, that will help. Just to be clear, what I was suggesting was highlighting what I had written, right clicking, copy the text, then, if I were to fall foul of the timeout, it would be simply a matter of right clicking in the reply space and pasting the copy in. Hope that makes some sort of sense. It works.

Re: Slump in activity
If it takes people a while to compose a post, why not type it into a text edit application first, then cut and paste it into the forum when it's finished? There'd be no risk of time out then.

That had not crossed my mind. Thanks Lew. In fact, it's a completely new idea to me, but I will give it a try. The method I mentioned previously does work but it's probably not a professional way of doing things - that is, I sort of figured it out by trial and error.
Re: Slump in activity
Short posts work better too in a forum capacity I think. How about little bits'n'pieces instead of a full essay?

Re: Slump in activity
Timing out seems to have gone crazy today, it's practically instantaneous.

It appears that there is a problem with the hosters of my website, Go-Daddy, as can be found here http://downdetector.com/status/go-daddy
I'm experiencing similar problems with some of my other sites. It's been going on for a couple of days. It's out of my hands I'm afraid. All I can do is keep on monitoring it.
