Desperate Dan was featured with a blonde haired female lookalike in a Hoot ministrip.
I'm not sure whether it's meant to be a relative, his girlfriend or what? But I haven't seen this character anywhere apart from this strip.

The image doesn't seem to work. I posted it on this thread.

He has a sister, if I remember rightly (Katie's mum possibly) or a cousin.

In the 'Dandy Book 1989' he was seen on a mission to find a girlfriend (even going through a stage of appeared to be very early computer/internet dating)--though fails to find one...but in conclusion of the story - he felt chuffed that his Dandy readers 'loved' him...does that storyline ring any bells - of those who have the 1989 Annual??

That book was published in 1988, when the Internet didn't yet exist!

Computer dating was around before the Internet. Just in a different form.

:offtopic1: Yes...the Dandy annual exactly showed it in a completely different form. The Internet did exist in the 1980s and 1970s (when it was first being seriously researched) though at the time only military officers or the government could access it. It wasn't accessible to the public until the early 1990s when the World Wide Web was introduced in 1991.
Love the 80s and 90s Dandy and Beanos...

Apparently there was an article in my local paper about a school successfully sending an Email from Cambridge to March, that was in 1986. They hoped to soon be able to send one "as far as Peterborough!"

It was Sid James and Hattie Jacques behind a cardboard front making it up as they went along, wasn't it? I saw it in a film so it must be true :)

Little Bear started as a one-off character for a single Dan story but Ken drew her into the background of a few more strips so she got developed. The idea for Little Bear and Dan was that Little Bear and just about everybody else would known that she was Dan's girlfriend but he wouldn't have quite sussed that out. He's an innocent, you see.

Yes, I saw that film in about 1970, and it certainly was true. But the idea was a few years old by then- Computer matchmaking. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dating#Com ... atchmakers
