If you want the complete 28 page issue 1, buy The Art And History of The Dandy. That actually has it complete, unlike the other two publications to reprint it this year.

History in our hands. The final print Dandy has arrived.

Post by fromthenorth »

It's here.

75 years of print history ended in my household this morning as the final print edition of The Dandy arrived on my doormat.
Mixed feelings, end of an era, happy to have it but sad it's ending.

I've flicked through it. It looks amazing.

Surprised at the Top 75 strips - though you won't be shocked at Number 1 - poignant last panel on that strip too.

I won't post any spoilers - enjoy the surprise for one final time.

Congratulations to all at The Dandy and DC Thomson.

I am both glad that I have the final issue in my hands and sad that I have the final issue in my hands courtesy of a colleague of Postman Prat. I have read it from cover to cover and the verdict can only be that it is a great final issue and a fitting tribute.

I am sad that it won't be coming through the door anymore and that my Dandy Collection (1964-2012) is officially closed. Now all I have to do is fill in the gaps.

That is not to say I won't want to see what the digital version will look like but for me it is the end of an era that has been with me (off and on) since I was five.

As I bought the final Dandy through DCT, I get the feeling I will be getting a double dip of the Dandy (I have No. 3609 coming from NewsStand this week, and I should get the final issue around the same time)

I'm compiling a list of who's in the final Dandy, and I need a little help with the back cover.

I think the chef is Cheerful Charlie Chutney, everyone else is straightforward, but what is the name of the moustachioed character?

Also, are the three monkeys (rather than two) significant?

Not seen it yet, but I'll try to guess anyway.

Are the monkeys Monkey Bizness?

Charlie Chutney sounds right for a chef character, and the mustachioed one, is it the character on the left in the image below?

No, the moustache is very long and prehensile.

The monkeys aren't wearing clothes, which confused me - you see monkeys you automatically think Bamboo Town.

Is the character with the long tash wearing a trilby type hat? And only the monkeys in Bamboo town Pongo and Bongo

Yes, he was wearing a trilby. Three unnamed naked mischievous monkeys, who were definitely not the wise ones.

Thanks for posting that. I've never seen that moustached character before - it's an obscure and probably early one.

Chip from Moe and Joe and Daddy-O looks like a dead ringer for Ginger (owner of the Super Jeep) and Trotty (Winker Watson's pal).

£3.99? Then why was DC Thomson Shop charging £5.49?

Also, the recall date is the end of April. That means you have almost five months to buy it.

The postman has been and gone today and no comic! Sad times, I don't know what I'm going to do if it's not here tomorrow! :(

It had better, what's the point subscribing if it arrives after it's in the shops? Lew Stringer's in the same boat as you.
