New Dandy-strip news that Lew Stringer tweeted....

They should bring back Korky the Cat. Oh hang on, that's what's on my drawing board right now.

Looks like work is well underway for that then. Keep an eye on other artists' blogs!

It was underway months ago. It's almost completed now. We've worked way in advance this year.

Perhaps it would work better if the digital Dandy could be re-launched as an eComic with one free viewable sample. To make it pay, readers would have to sbscribe for say, minimum of 3 months. Forget online games and animations altogether. Thomsons would commision new artwork with their traditional editorial methods, but from digital contributers, some stuff in black and white, other stuff self coloured by the artist for a higher fee. No printing or distribution costs! Just get a small team of organisers to ensure the subscription and payment system works smoothly. Regarding the website, it would only show front covers, the free sample to view online or download, Dandy club niews, readers' letters and the odd feature. Could/would this work? I for one would love to see the Dandy re-born, it's the first comic I ever saw, I was 5 years old at the time.

Anyway folks, that's my two pennorth. Regards to all,
Trevor

Well a year has passed since the last printed copy of The Dandy and there is still no sign of a digital Dandy revival.

Will it ever come back?

Especially considering that the modern Beano seems more Dandyish (printed version) than ever.
Reading comics since 1970. My Current Regulars are: 2000 AD (1977-), Judge Dredd Megazine (1990-), Spaceship Away (2003-), Commando (2013-), Monster Fun (2022-), Deadpool and Wolverine (2023-), Quantum (2023-).

That'll probably say in the credits "Based on characters from The Beano comic published by DC Thomson", like the Dennis cartoons do - with no mention of Dandy or Nutty, Bananaman's previous homes. And Bananaman is one of DC Thomson's only properties that's actually known in the United States, as the 80s cartoon aired on Nickelodeon double billed with Dangermouse. I don't think that movie will have any bearing on the Dandy brand's future.

Indeed - at the time that Bananaman made it into the Beano, I thought it was a spot of cross-pollination to support the Dandy, but it looks like it may have been to give the movie more of a push - albeit three years before it will finally hit the big screen!

When I posted that earlier I wasn't sure if it was a joke or not (even with the DC Thomson logo in the corner). But The Dandy's facebook just linked to it!

Shame they didn't do a Bananaman movie 3 years ago, it could have helped The Dandy's sales. I suppose I agree with other comments about him being in The Beano helping the movie though as the cartoon series was 30 years ago.

If the movie is a hit, it wouldn't surprise me if they made a new TV show too (I doubt most kids would watch reruns of the 80s version, sadly). I wonder if there'll be a Bananaman Annual 2016, to tie into the movie?

I have bought the box set of the Bananaman TV Series recently and it has to be said it hasn't aged well by today's standards.

The humour in it is basically cheesy old jokes which worked for it back then but I can't see it working on today's audience. Also in the first two series the sound was sometimes not always the best and you struggled to hear what the characters was saying.

Having said that I still like it :D
