Phoenix's Future Plans

Discuss all the girls comics that have appeared over the years. Excellent titles like Bunty, Misty, Spellbound, Tammy and June, amongst many others, can all be remembered here.

45/2? As there are no months with 45 days, Bri, this doesn't make sense.

One thing I forgot to mention about my London trip was that on a visit to Bocketts Farm, Andrew, Aurora, Kelsey, and I watched a pig race. I've never seen anything like it in my life. There were five pigs, and they had to run one lap. Their names were Voldesnort, Justin Bieboar, Beyoinkse, Piggy Stardust and Uswine Bolt. I didn't get too excited, and in any case there were no bookmakers in sight. We didn't wait for the next race, which would have involved the same five pigs. Perhaps they are not that easy to train.

Apparently we are all going out for a meal tonight to celebrate Lois's thirteenth birthday. As she is seriously into Harry Potter, from a local bric-a-brac shop I bought her three longish planks of wood, two of which had the words already painted on them. On one of them was painted the word HOGWARTS, on the second was HOGWARTS EXPRESS (the magic train that got the pupils to that boarding school), but for the third one I asked the shopkeeper to have the words PLATFORM NINE AND THREE QUARTERS painted on it, all in words. He said that he would have to have it done by his contact in St Austell. I told him I didn't mind where it was done, but I had to have the finished product in my possession by teatime on Saturday August 3rd. It hadn't arrived by half twelve despite his having been assured that he would have it by lunchtime. I said I'd have to go to the White Hart for a pint to settle my nerves while reading THE GUARDIAN. All was well that ended well though. When Rach came in this morning from her night shift, she said, "What am I going to do with these?" I said they could go on the wall in Lois's bedroom. Rach said that there was no room on that wall so could it wait until they move into the bigger property that they have already bought in St Erth, because everyone would have bigger rooms there. I said that would be absolutely fine.

I've just had a text from Rach asking me to get to their house by 6.15. I might as well go up there now (5.40) and take some of my preparation work for BUNTY AND HER SISTERS, if only to check for factual and spelling mistakes. I doubt whether there will be either.

This is a request for information on some of the content of some issues of MANDY in 1975, 1976, and 1979. I really just need to know the starting and/or finishing details of any serials that start or end in the following issues:- 457 : 459 : 462 to 467, 469 to 476 : 478 to 480 : 482 to 486 : 488 : 490 : 627 to 631 : 640 : 643 : and 645.

In the eighties, I also need that information for 719 to 721 (1980) : 933 to 947 (1985): and in the nineties 1237 : 1238 : 1243 : 1247 to 1250 : 1256 : 1260 : 1262 to 1265 : 1267 and 1268. I have all the other issues. I look forward to being overwhelmed by replies. I will acknowledge all contributing members in BUNTY AND HER SISTERS.

Later I will need similar information on some issues of JUDY in 1972 and 1979, some issues of DEBBIE in 1979, 1981 and 1982, and quite a lot of issues of SUZY between 171 and 249, but first things first.

If possible I would like the requested information above by midday tomorrow, please. Otherwise, to use a Lancashire expression, I'll be sitting here at my desk "like cheese at fourpence a pound".

My mum's expression was "standing around like a tit in a trance". Another was "standing around like a frozen turd". Bless her.

Thank you so very much, Lorraine, for the long list that you took the trouble to write out for me. I am currently working my way steadily through it, and noting down your information in the relevant gaps. Inevitably other questions arise, but you certainly don't need to rush to answer them, even if you can, and would like to, because I know how busy you are. The two that I have made a note of so far are about the number of their starting issue. Cindy And The Crystal Shoes is one, the other is Dolly Bird. Inevitably there will be more because although I have a huge collection of MANDY, acquired over many years, I don't have a complete run, but the possibility that our collections might dovetail is a confidence booster for me.

Morning Lorraine. I'm up and running again, starting with issue 574 from 1978. Just one carryover from yesterday. Do you have the starting issue number of The Healing Hands Of Hanni? There's no rush. Oh and by the way, I am not including text stories such as That Crafty Cat! in the book.

I know I have a bad memory, Lorraine, but I didn't think it was as bad as it is. I'm sitting in front of my computer this lunchtime, wondering why I don't know the answer to the question I asked you this morning about when The Healing Hands Of Hanni started, and then the penny dropped. I do have all the information, including issue numbers and dates, because I noted it all down, along with the details of every other serial story that I didn't own from the other ten story papers from DCT. during a visit of a week or more to the British Library a few years ago, with just that purpose in mind. As proof of the pudding, The Healing Hands Of Hanni started in MANDY 467 (December 27 1975). At a stroke, a weight has been lifted from my mind, and it will save you a great deal of effort that I would have been very grateful for. I will, of course, acknowledge your contribution in the book, as I promised yesterday.

Well I'm happy to be able to repay the help you have given many a time!

If you have them already noted that's great, but if I can be of further assistance you can let me know. I've been doing some trips to library to fill in some Mandy gaps recently too.

This morning I went swimming with Ruby, our local pool will be closing for refurbishments for 6 months, so it'll be the last session there for a while. Tired her out anyway, so she is now napping, gives me time to put my feet up for a while.
