Phoenix's Future Plans

Discuss all the girls comics that have appeared over the years. Excellent titles like Bunty, Misty, Spellbound, Tammy and June, amongst many others, can all be remembered here.

Now that I am aware, Lorraine, that I have all the necessary information on MANDY and the other ten titles, it would be a time and money saver if you were to ask me for the information that you need. There really is no point whatsoever in duplicating work already done. As I understand it, one of the basic, if unwritten, principles of both ComicsUk and Girls Comics Of Yesterday is the requirement for members to help each other when they can. So please just ask.

That would be very helpful, I've the shorter running comics covered already, but some major gaps in the longer running ones like Bunty and Mandy.

As you have been discussing Mandy if you could give me information from the years 1976-1978 that would be great.

All in your own time of course, no rush.

Here's list of stories I'd like start or end issue numbers for:

Cindy and the Crystal Shoes (start issue?)
Dolly Bird (start issue?)
The Secret Nurse (start and end issue?)
Jackie and Jill (end issue?)
Jo and Jeannie (end issue?)
A Pop Group Called Pippa (end issue?)
Bramptons’ Big Noise (end issue?)
My Brother Rex (end issue?)
Mighty Minnie (start and end issue?)
No Love for Linda (start and end issue?)
Roma the Roamer (start issue?)
Rosie of the Iron Road (start issue?)
Sheena the Sham (end issue?)
Tomorrow's Champion the Story of a Skater (end issue?)
Charmette (start issue?)
Is he My Dad? (start issue?)
Margie in the Middle (start issue?)
Mums Go Home (end issue?)
Star of Esther (end issue?)
My Bionic Budgie (end issue?)
The Secret Life of Spring Flowers (start issue?)

Also if you have the stories that start and end between issues 530-537.

That's quite a long list, so again whenever you can, as I'm sure you're quite busy.

O.K. Here goes. I don't have all the answers but I do have most of them.

Cindy And The Crystal Shoes - I don't have the first instalment.
Dolly Bird - I don't have the first instalment.
The Secret Nurse - Starts in 455 - I don't have the final instalment.
Jackie And Jill - Ends in 514.
Jo And Jeannie - Ends in 538.
A Pop Group Called Pippa - Ends in 518.
Brampton's Big Noise - Ends 516. (Please note the position of the apostrophe.)
My Brother Rex - Ends 517.
Mighty Minnie - Runs 519 - 533.
No Love For Linda - Runs 519 - 530.
Roma The Roamer - Starts in 517.
Rosie Of The Iron Road - Starts in 516.
Sheena The Sham - Ends in 525.
Tomorrow's Champion - I don't have the final instalment.
Charmette - Starts in 526.
Is He My Dad? - Starts in 524.
Margie In The Middle - Starts in 523. (This may be a repeat of MANDY 151 - 165)
Mums Go Home - Ends in 540.
The Star Of Eshtar - Ends in 542. (Please note Eshtar, not Esther.)
My Bionic Budgie - I don't have the final instalment.
The Secret Life Of Spring Flowers - Starts in 579.

I'll add the stories that start and/or end between 530 and 537 when I've had a late tea.

Thanks very much Derek for all that information! I can add it to my spreadsheet which I keep as a quick reference, then continue to update my site as Mandy is currently the comic I'm concentrating on.

As you have issue #579 and "My Bionic Budgie" doesn't end in it and I have issue #581, it would be a safe assumption that the stories ends in #580, making way for "My Name is Freya" which starts in #581.

The problem is that My Bionic Budgie! doesn't end in 580. At the end of that instalment the blurb says "Bionic Beakie will be back in TWO WEEKS." But it doesn't end in 582 either. At the end of the episode in 583, the reader is told that "Kim's Bionic Friend Will Be Back Soon.", which only reveals intent, not certainty. Where my placing the titles in lists governed by the first letter of the title is concerned, I have reached issue 634 without being disturbed by any further budgies, bionic or otherwise, so it's a reasonable assumption that the story ended in 583.

Just noticed that Mallory Towers starts on CBBC tomorrow (Monday) at 5.30pm. It says it's amazing to think this is the first ever screen adaptation of Enid Blyton's boarding school books, especially when you consider how popular they remain today. I mention it here as Phoenix has been researching these type of books. His girls may be interested, too.

I did watch that first episode of Enid Blyton's 'Malory Towers' series, Steve. The first title in her series was First Term At Malory Towers, which was published in 1946. As it is a long time since I last read that novel, or the series for that matter, I can't be sure how close yesterday's opening instalment was to the equivalent in the original book.

Which girls are those, Steve? I only have two sons, no daughters. My son, Andrew, has two daughters, Aurora and Kelsey, my son, Russell, has one, Lois.

I was alluding to Aurora mainly but remember you mentioning another. I know you don't have daughters but wasn't sure if the "girls" were nieces or grandchildren.

The article mentioned new Mallory Towers books by a different author featuring the younger sister of the original main character.
