British comics reprinted in Europe

Post by paw broon »

Having mentioned this a few times here and elsewhere, I was still surprised and delighted to find this link to Fleetway Super Library being reprinted in Yugoslavia:-
http://www.mihamazzini.com/EN/SuperStrip/default. etc.
I'm sure we're all aware of Blackman, Main D'Acier etc. as some of the names used for Fleetway characters in France, Spain, etc. But the Yugoslavian info. is new to me and very interesting indeed. Thanks to cajnik on CB+ for the link.

Sorry, I seem to omitted the ".html" bit at the end of the link.

This version also works.

Interesting stuff! We have only recently found out on the Jinty blog about girls' stories being reprinted in Greece, Spain, Holland (well I knew something about that but not much), and even Indonesia. Even the creators weren't aware of the extent of the reprinting that happened!
jintycomic.wordpress.com/ Excellent and weird stories from the past - with amazing art to boot.

Are these comics reprinted in Yugoslavia originally British?

I think the first one is a Skid Solo story as that is definitely Sandy James' work who went on to draw so much of Johnny Cougar.
I started to say something sensible but my parents took over my brain!

I think the second page is American. The art style reminds me of the Dan Barry years of Flash Gordon (the fifties, mostly) while the heroic character, who seems to be called Dzoni (Yugoslavian for Johnny) looks like Frank Frazetta drew him.

But it's not Johnny Comet.

What could be the first one if it's not Skid Solo?
