Today I received a VG copy of the Buster comic dated December 31st 1960. I'm sure this is a pretty rare issue as Phil Comics sold one last December on Ebay in GD/VG condition for £127!

I'm also waiting on the previous issue (24th December 1960) which I bought recently.

It's really nice to have the Christmas 1960 issue

Bought a Dandy comic no.311 from 1946 in VG+ condition. Also, not comic related but still a nice find though, was an original production used "Whatever Happened To The Likely Lads" Christmas Special 1974 camera script. 😎

Spent £5 on eleven comics this morning (see Image)

I think sword and scorcery such as ARAK or CONAN are well suited to the comic media.
The Dandy souvenir poster although it counted as a comic looks like some sort of free gift from somewhere.

Now I need to recover from today's spending spree it might take weeks. :)

Along with 75 commandos (varying from 600's to 1500's - apart from the very early one pictured) - I ended up with this wee lot today. Can anyone help with details on the 'Sabre' comic, and when war picture library reset it's numbers (and size) - see far right issue. Thanks!

Bought 1958 Topper annual for £2 from a charity shop this morning (see image)

Considering the many comic and annual titles you would have thought they would have been easier to find.

Great find abacus. And for only £2 too. Had that very annual myself in the late 90s before space became an issue and I had to thin out my annual collection. 🙂

Thanks Abyss.
I was old enough to have the first issues of Topper and Beezer comics as a child when they were produced in tabloid size but I wasn't
saving them at that time. There were many other comics where I had the first issue when they came out including Lion,Tiger,Tv fun and the original Eagle run and as a teenager Top Spot.
You have a good collection Beano and Dandy comics many of which were before my comic reading days , well done!

As mentioned in a previous note when I look down the Comics Uk gallery of comics and annuals I am suprised I don't find that many in the charity shops.

abacus, as mention in past posts. My era was the mid/late 70s when I started collecting comics. My usual hunts were my school summer fate where I use to buy bundles of broadsheet Toppers for 10p. Always looked forward to finding the odd Christmas issue amongst the pile too. So exciting. Couldn't wait to get home for the big reveal. Great memories.

And this is no joke. I literally had over 2000 annuals at one point in the early/mid 90s. Shows the volume of annuals available then pre-internet. Me and my brother use to got numerous bootsales, put adverts in the Yellow Free Ads paper, hey remember that before ebay lol, plus we also put feelers out in our local newspaper ect.. We had some good hits but the issue was travelling. We went miles only to be let down when the would-be seller overstated conditio of comics & annuals. Had a lot of pranksters too phone and send us on a wild goose chase.

It was always a blast when you came across an annual or comic in mint condition for pennies. Had an antiques shop, think it was about a mile from where I lived and I bought for £2 one of the most mint 1962 Beano annuals I've ever seen. It was immaculate.

And you're right. Years ago you could pick up loads of vintage annuals in charity shops & fates, but with the advent of the internet the chance of finding annuals & comics have diminished somewhat, although there are hidden gems to be found as demonstrated with your recent Topper annual purchase. 🙂
