How much did they pay me for the one 'spot cartoon' I contributed? Five poxy quid! A pittance even by late eighties standards.
Agreed about the content. Mr Men-type characters and student non-jokes.
We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of the dream.
I was just having another look at Chris Donald's book "Rude Kids", he devoted a small section to the Viz imitators, apparently Zit tried to sue Spit for "passing themselves off" as Zit, however "passing off" means making something look exactly the same, not simply giving it a rhyming title. The resulting failed court case cost Zit around £23,000 (in 1991! my dad bought a top of the range car from that year and the original sales certificate only came to £11,000). They where then sued by a TV presenter after making tasteless remarks about her baby's cot death. Add to this endless attempts to give away free copies in Newcastle which simply resulted in a large litter problem, and they must have gone under pretty quick.
