I don't buy , not since I was 10 years (in 1970 arrrghhh) I'm too old and the humour nowadays, to me, is not my type (being very kind)the older ones were more anarchic - I do occassionaly look at a copy (ie for My own Genie) which my girlfriends sister's wee lassies buys - but at 9 years old shes decided to stop it and read some girls magazine

No,graduated to the more mixed action humour comics during the rampant inflation of the mid 70's.
I tried to get my children interested in the 90's but they quickly lost interest about 10--a shame but I couldn't get them interested in Steam Railways or Folk Music either.
In a multi-cultural and diverse society they look archaic not anarachistic now.

Totaly agree Brisey but I still think that todays humour is archaic compaired to yesterdays wild at heart stuff (Baxenale, Reid and Wood etc in USA etc)todays tonned downed stuff is nowhere in that league- Beano etc of the 50w before my time) and 6os was def anarachic & insperational

I would but I don't have the storage space to get them on a regular basis. I get 1 or 2 a year just to see where they are at.

I'm not in the regular habit of picking them up anymore, but I do still get them quite frequently.

The Dandy in particular, thanks to some great stuff from Tom Paterson, Steve Bright and Jamie Smart et al.

And The Beano, for the infrequent Calamity James appearences, and Singled Out, which I think is fantastic.

I buy The Beano when I'm in it (eg this week's werewolf serial), when Mike Pearse is in it (occasional long stories and the original Singled Out strips, not the new kiddy ones by Nigel Parkinson), and especially when Gary Northfied's Derek The Sheep is in (about once a month).

So I pretty well get it every week at the moment.

In The Dandy I love My Own Genie, and I think Jak and Ollie Fliptrik are very strong, but I'm a bit tight fisted so don't get it all the time.

Thanks for your kind comments here, and elsewhere on this forum, regarding Derek the Sheep, it's always nice to know the work is being appreciated, particularly from a fellow pro.
Although I did have a reader complain this week that you must have something against Derek as you either have him chopped up or getting his head bitten off, but I know you love him really

You'll be pleased to know there'll be a Derek weekly serial coming up in May, so you'll have to buy the Beano even more frequently.

I get the Beano and Dandy, and the occasional Fun Size.

Ollie Fliptrik is probably the only strip I just don't bother with reading out of the two. No idea why but I always skip it :s
