I?d not been to one of these particular shows before, so I didn?t have any expectations.
The British comic contingency was very well represented with several dealers being led by The Book Palace, amongst others. And the room was buzzing, literally packed with people. There was barely room to move. I managed to meet a few traders and make some contacts that?ll help me with my IPC/Fleetway collection.
There was an awful lot of frenzied buying going on from other collectors who were much more organised than me, all brandishing their ?want? lists, and at times you were definitely jostled out the way in their haste to get the elusive comic. Certainly when I arrived, at 12:15, it wasn?t an environment for quiet and casual browsing, people knew what they wanted, and they targeted dealers/boxes like a laser beam.
When I left about 14:30 people were still arriving in large amounts.
In terms of my purchases, I bought 18 issues of Monster Fun at only 50p each ? some with centre pages still intact ? and I stumbled on a pile of fantastic and excellent condition 1970s IPC/Fleetway summer specials that I instantly snapped up. Stuff from Krazy, Cheeky, and so on. Really chuffed with these.
There was a reasonable amount of comic art, but sadly it was of no interest to me. I had hoped to get some, but apart from a couple of Buster front covers from the 1980s, there was nothing else specific to my interests. Actually though, this was a good thing as I didn?t fancy carrying it around London all day.
As suspected in an earlier post, there were a lot of American comic, trading card and sci-fi toy stands at the show, which is of no interest to me personally, but overall, yes, it was a good day out, and I?m very glad I made the effort. I?m especially pleased with my purchases and already looking forward to the next show.

I would have gone, but I ended up collecting 60 Tiger comics with the last one ever, and 120 Roy of the Rover comics all for ?4 all from the 1980's.
Plus 9 Annuals with the 1975 Buster book of Spooky tales for ?3.
Total price ?7.
All these I got from ebay.
I don't think I would have got as good as bargain as that at the ABC show.

There are further National Collectors Marketplace shows on Sunday May 7 and June 11, at the same location, Royal National Hotel, Bedford Way, London WC1.

Sounds like you had a productive day on eBay then. I saw LOADS of Tiger comics and several editions of Roy of the Rovers at the ABC show. Not sure on prices but the conditions were very good to excellent.
Just one thing I noticed at the ABC show, there were a couple of dealers, that despite having price labels on comics ? for example 35p ? were actually selling higher at say 50p or 75p. One dealer told me that it was old dealer stock they?d bought several years ago, and therefore didn?t reflect their current value. Little bit cheeky I thought.
Similarly, I bought a summer special that was marked ?2 on the back, but sold to me for ?5. However, I did buy editions that I don?t ever see on eBay, so its swings and roundabouts, and I was pleased with the purchase, despite the pricing differentials.

I managed to bag a Cheeky ?78 summer special in mint condition, and a ?best of? Krazy special from ?79, also in mint condition. I?m thrilled with these, even at a fiver each.
And slightly cheaper, I also bought a couple of Whizzer and Chips summer specials from ?81 and ?83, and a Whoopee Frankie Stein special from ?80.
I don?t know if you?ve ever tried, but getting good condition examples of 1970s and early 1980s summer/holiday specials from IPC is much more difficult than you may think. So it makes being able to buy several in one go even more special ? for me at any rate

Yes, I think that by the nature of these summer/holiday special comics being bought and read over the summer holidays, on long journeys and so forth, fewer survived in a reasonable state to collect.
Which always makes it so much nicer when I do find good examples.
